From The Positive Perspective.......
"Stronger Than The Storm" is the slogan you will read as you drive all over the state of New Jersey. Think about that saying for a minute. Here comes Mother Nature ready to wreak havoc on the East Coast and how do the residents respond? Well, from my observations and casual interviews, they responded with a determination to rebuild that is full of vigor, diligence and a sense of pride associated with what the Jersey Shore represents. If you have any connection to the "shore," you know what I mean. The stereotype of "Snooki" and "The Situation" is not even close.
When you are faced with an insurmountable "storm" of your own, how do you respond? Do you look at the situation as one where you will give up? Or......can you take the challenge, break it down into the parts that you can and cannot control and then take action?
Even with Hurricane Sandy, the residents built barricades, stocked up on supplies needed for after she went through and were prepared for working together to salvage anything they could when things calmed down. It was not unusual to hear many of my relatives and friends discuss having no power for days or even weeks. While it was uncomfortable and frustrating I'm sure, there was not much complaining, because they always knew of someone else who had bigger problems and they were thankful for only having the small problems they were faced with. Neighbors were helping neighbors, no matter their race, religion or political affiliation; everyone was working together to survive as a whole. It was heart-warming to hear the stories of people coming together to help each other. Sad that it takes a tragedy to make goodness like that happen. How can you help the giving and "coming together" happen on a regular basis in your own world? My readers are extremely intelligent, I know you will find a way.
While the slogan is being used to give strength to the residents of NJ, there is still so much to be done. Some areas have come back miraculously since last Fall, while other areas remained unchanged since that fateful day. Many residents still wait for funding to rebuild. Why not reach out to organizations that are assisting with "Sandy" clean up? If that is not your style, how about reaching out to your own community, finding a need, and filling it with your time, talent or financial resources to make someone else's life better?
One person can make a difference. What will you do today to prove that you are "Stronger Than The Storm?"
I look forward to hearing from you regarding how you are fighting your storm and the successes you are experiencing. As always, thank you for looking at this issue .... From The Positive Perspective.
