Most of us currently have or have had a pet at some point in our life.   These irreplaceable companions serve many therapeutic purposes as well as be our best friend.  From my childhood cat, Lollipops, to the many pets along the way with our daughters (the hermit crabs, the fish, the snake, the Gecko) to our beloved Duncan and Mike, the cats, to our one and only Raleigh, our Australian Shepherd, you have been valuable in so many ways over the years.  Read below to discover more about how pets can be beneficial to us humans.

From The Positive Perspective.......

According to the Humane Society, 62% of American households contained at least one pet.  That means that 62% of Americans have access to a great stress reliever.  Talking to pets and letting them know what you are stressed about and what decisions are worrying you, can help to ease the burden of making those decisions.  Putting the stressor into words can sometimes assist in lessening the intensity by actually talking through a scenario, knowing that the receiver of that information, aka your pet, will vow confidentiality 100% of the time. Once putting that stressor into words, you may realize that things are not as devastating as originally thought.  You may also realize that there is more than one way to solve the problem at hand.  You can also have an "Aha" moment while discussing the situation with your pet, because you are speaking freely without reservation.  You say what's on your mind without a filter.  That

freedom can allow a solution to become apparent very quickly.

I had the opportunity recently to go to a pet store that actually invites individuals to come in and just hold the puppies.  You can stay as long as you like sitting on the floor and cuddling with these amazing creatures.  There is a line out the door.  I think they have the right idea.  Imagine all the stress being relieved on a daily basis in just that one location.  Think about the importance of being able to do that every day as a gift for yourself.

If you don't currently own a pet, considering adopting one from a nearby shelter that is so crowded with animals just waiting to be loved.  They do require someone to be responsible for them and they need love and attention but it is truly worth it.
