Moving Ahead
Dear Friends,
With the school buses rolling, the children in their classrooms and football season beginning the rush of the coming Fall Season is upon us. In the midst of the present rush I'm writing you today to provide an overview of the life of Foothills Presbytery as we have now engaged in the new model of "being and doing" Presbytery. To dig in and keep up with all that is happening, I want to encourage you to save the "Annotated Implementation Plan" (annotated notes for Motions 1 & 2 from Council) that we emailed out on July 21st and pages 7 to 35 of the main Docket Pack for the August meeting of Presbytery. I hope you'll keep these before you as we enter this 2017 to 2019 engagement and experimentation period in our shared life.
Mission:
Let me begin by directing your attention to the Mission Statement that we adopted at the 100th Stated Meeting via the approval of "The First Reading" of Part I of the new Manual of Administrative Operations (see below and page 15 of the August 14 Docket Pack):

PDA in Louisiana |
|
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
is responding in Baton Rouge
and the Gulf Coast
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. -Song of Solomon 8:7
In response to catastrophic flooding in Baton Rouge, South Louisiana, and the Gulf states, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has responded in the Presbytery of South Louisiana and reached out to the Presbytery of Mississippi, offering assistance.
Members of the National Response Team have been deployed to help the Presbyterian community assess needs and begin to organize a long-term response in affected communities. PDA has also responded to one congregation and one presbytery office that experienced significant damage in their facilities.
Your gifts to DR000191 US flooding are urgently needed now to support these communities as more community needs are identified and the hard work of mucking out and rebuilding begins.
Congregations and other partners in South Louisiana have already offered to host and supervise early work teams for cleanup. We are connecting potential volunteers with those partners, and work teams will soon be needed for the long-term recovery and rebuilding.
