 AEA Awards Five Aircraft Owners with $1,000 Toward an ADS-B Installation
To help incentivize owners of general aviation aircraft to meet the Federal Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out mandate in the U.S., the Aircraft Electronics Association awarded five aircraft owners with $1,000 toward an ADS-B compliant upgrade during the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Oshkosh, July 25-31, in Wisconsin.
This year marks the third consecutive year that the AEA has made the $1,000 award available to five aircraft owners. Each of the winners must have their installation scheduled by Aug. 1, 2017, at an AEA member repair station of their choice.  FAA Announces Public ADS-B Performance Report Request
The Federal Aviation Administration announced that the public ADS-B Performance Report request site is now active. This online capability is meant to replace the current email service and provide users with 24/7/365 access to post-installation system performance verification per §91.227 requirements. AEA member shops installing ADS-B systems should begin utilizing this new FAA service.

 Avionics Academy Advances Aviation Training
Just outside the city of Hannover in north central Germany, not far from the port city of Hamburg, the North Sea coastline and the Harz mountains, Avionics Academy helps technicians, pilots and aviation managers stay on the leading edge of the avionics industry. "We concentrate on how the newest developments in avionics -- such as a new generation of crimping technology for technicians or new navigation systems for pilots -- can make their work life easier and more efficient," said Christoph Santel, head of development and consulting for Avionics Academy.

he company has enrolled more than 100 students in its courses, which topics include navigation systems, RVSM, ADS-B, installing individual avionics systems, aviation legislation, human factors and more. Safety Management System Coordinator Training:
Oct. 4
More and more customers and international authorities are asking for safety management systems from Aircraft Electronics Association members. To satisfy their needs, the AEA has developed a proprietary SMS program designed for maintenance organizations, sized for small businesses and leveraged by the 900-strong repair station membership. This program has been coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration and Transport Canada Civil Aviation, as well as discussions with the Australian government's Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the European Aviation Safety Agency for future acceptance.
Presented by Ric Peri, AEA vice president of government and industry affairs, the
training will provide a solid overview of modern safety principles, the International Civil Aviation Organization guidance on SMS implementation and the use and operation of the proprietary AEA SMS program.
This training program is mandatory for a repair station's accountable manager or SMS coordinator (if designated) in order to enroll a repair station in the AEA SMS program

International Rotorcraft Safety Conference:
Oct. 24-27
The FAA Rotorcraft Directorate will host its second International Rotorcraft Safety Conference, Oct. 27-27, with the goal to reduce the national helicopter accident rate. The free event will take place at the Hurst Conference Center near Ft. Worth, Texas. The target audience is rotorcraft pilots, mechanics, small-company owners, students, industry executives, operators, and government regulators from the U.S. and abroad. The conference will feature presentations from major industry and FAA leaders. Topics include improving decisions, creating a culture of safety, performing autorotations, choosing the best protection equipment, basic helicopter safety and maintenance, how flight training schools promote safety, and a presentation by a pilot who safely landed his helicopter after the engine failed. The FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute will bring its Helicopter Spatial Disorientation Demonstration exhibit that allows participants to experience various flight scenarios. Conference attendees will receive Inspection Authorization credits and WINGS pilot proficiency program credits.

to integrate Jeppesen terminal charts with the iOS-based Garmin Pilot app.
GARMIN announced FAA approval of the G5 electronic flight instrument in type-certificated fixed-wing general aviation aircraft; installation approval is accomplished via STC with a comprehensive approved model list containing 562 aircraft models. Garmin also
announced expanded Connext weather and data service packages that provide new pricing tiers with all-inclusive rate plans designed to suit pilots' flying needs for global weather and connectivity; introduced the
GTX 35R, which meets ADS-B Out requirements and the GTX 45R that offers ADS-B Out, as well as ADS-B In benefits.
COBHAM SATCOM's AVIATOR 300D system received a Civil Aviation Administration of China validation of STC for installation aboard the Airbus A320 series. It is the first time a SwiftBroadband ACARS-capable modem has received Chinese certification.
DAC INTERNATIONAL renewed its worldwide distributorship agreement with Northrop Grumman LITEF.
FLIGHTCELL INTERNATIONAL of Nelson, New Zealand, released Iridium Push-To-Talk functionality for the Flightcell DZMx; the world's only all-in-one aviation communications system providing Iridium satellite and 3G/4G cellular communications with remote GPS tracking.
ASTRONICS CORP. was awarded a contract to provide night vision compatible lighting systems for an undisclosed country's fleet of F-16 aircraft.
GENESYS AEROSYSTEMS is offering a summer sales promotion on the Genesys/S-TEC 55X, high-performance, two-axis autopilot.
Customers who buy a new Genesys/S-TEC System 55X autopilot before Sept. 30 will
receive discounts on an optional autotrim or altitude preselect system.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS received an AML STC expansion for its RANGR line of ADS-B systems for Part 23 aircraft. This expansion adds pressurized and composite aircraft to the company's existing AML, bringing the total number of covered aircraft to 780-plus general aviation aircraft makes and models.
GULF COAST AVIONICS started a new venture called Aviación Marketing, based in Bogotá, Colombia.
DUNCAN AVIATION plans to build a new business aircraft maintenance, modifications and paint complex at its Provo, Utah, location.
PS ENGINEERING's Flightmate, an audio storage/recall system included in the new PMA8000G, now provides an extra layer of alerting for aircraft events and quick access to audio checklists. The company also introduced the PMA450A audio panel that includes a larger display with white text on black organic LED technology.
DYNON AVIONICS announced that the FAA added the EFIS-D100 as an acceptable substitute to the EFIS-D10A on the EAA's STC. The company also unveiled SkyView HDX, the new flagship SkyView system from Dynon.
VORTEK AVIATION received the 2015 Avionics Training Excellence Award from the AEA.
ACR ELECTRONICS is celebrating the company's diamond anniversary this year.
BENDIXKING received
FAA approval for the installation of its KT 74 ADS-B Transponder and KGX-Series ADS-B transceivers on a broad list of general aviation helicopters.
AVIDYNE introduced a growing list of compatible third-party applications that can communicate wirelessly with the company's IFD Series FMS/GPS systems. It also is currently developing software releases that will add ADS-B compatibility for the Entegra Release 9 Integrated Flight Deck and also for the EX-Series MFDs. In addition, Avidyne has partnered with PilotSafety.org to develop new training programs for the company's product line.
HONEYWELL was selected by Finnair to provide its new Fuel-Efficiency Software, part of the GoDirect portfolio of subscription services, to help improve the airline's fuel usage and cost savings. In addition, Honeywell is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its TPE331 turboprop engine.
ASPEN AVIONICS announced that certification is imminent for its latest software upgrade to include several additional ADS-B display features on its Evolution 500/1000 multifunction display. Aspen also said that Precision Heli-Support of Mesa, Arizona, received an STC for installation of Aspen's Evolution 1000H PFD and optionally for the Evolution 500H or the Evolution 1000H MFD system in MD Helicopter models 369E, 369FF and 500N. The company also is expanding beyond the manufacturer sales channel to deliver its NexNav Micro-i GPS receiver/sensor through Aspen's authorized dealer network. In addition, Aspen partnered with Howell Instruments to provide the cockpit display system for new production, single-engine MD Helicopters.
FIELD AVIATION delivered the third of four missionized Challenger aircraft to Cobham Aviation Services, which provide enhanced search and rescue capabilities in support of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's operations.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. said that the Gulfstream G280 completed the longest flight in its history at 3,922 nautical miles on July 5. The company also announced that the fifth Gulfstream G500 test aircraft has completed its first flight. The company's service center in Brunswick, Georgia, received approved maintenance organization designations from Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.
TRUE BLUE POWER announced a growing list of builder's assistance programs offering Lancair Evolution Turbine owners True Blue Power TX16 lithium-ion engine-start batteries. Among the businesses offering programs are Advanced Aviation, Cascade Aircraft Management, Fibercraft Inc., and Performance One Aviation.
ROCKWELL COLLINS will supply visual systems, including image generators, databases, and projectors, plus avionics, data and software to Coptersafety Ltd, an independent helicopter training establishment located in Helsinki, Finland. In addition, the company said that a Citation CJ3 equipped with Rockwell Collins' Pro Line Fusion avionics recently made its flying debut following implementation of the system on the business jet with Duncan Aviation.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION announced new cockpit and operational applications for use with its ATG 1000 in-flight connectivity system, which is specifically aimed at the light jet and turboprop segments.
WEST STAR AVIATION received an STC for ADS-B Out on the Challenger 601 and Falcon 900 aircraft.
ASTRONAUTICS CORPORATION OF AMERICA will lead the effort to create the future Center of Excellence for Integrated Aerospace and Defense Technologies, which will bring together industry and academic coalition members to develop and test aerospace and defense cybersecurity technologies. In addition, the company was selected to provide an improved and upgraded electronic flight bag system on all fielded and future production Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplanes.
ROBOTIC SKIES partnered with Latitude Engineering to develop and implement a global maintenance plan for the Latitude Engineering line of unmanned aircraft systems products.
EAGLE CREEK AVIATION announced the delivery of a Garmin G950-equipped Twin Commander 1000 at EAA AirVenture.
DALLAS AVIONICS is now a distributor of Barfield's DPS1000 and new 1811NG Digital Pitot-Static Test sets. Both models are part of the Imperium line from Barfield. The DPS1000 meets RSVM accuracy requirements. The 1811NG is for helicopters and light aircraft.
CENTURY AVIONICS, the largest privately owned avionics facility in South Africa, was appointed by Lightspeed Aviation to its global network of authorized repair centers.
JEPPESEN and Mooney International partnered to provide Jeppesen NavData and digital charts as part of the purchase process of new Mooney aircraft, through a new service agreement between the companies.
ANODYNE ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING CORP. was selected to provide its new generation loudspeaker systems to Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Ltd. for two B429 helicopters purchased by the Indonesian National Police.
CONSTANT AVIATION and Nextant Aerospace launched a nationwide guaranteed operating cost program for all variations of the 400A/XP/XTi airframe beginning with the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP and the new Nextant 400XTi.
PRO STAR AVIATION was awarded an FAA AML STC ST00361BO -- Installation of a Honeywell Primus II (XS-852) ADS-B Out System. The STC provides ADS-B solutions for the majority of business aircraft equipped Honeywell Primus-II radio suites as well as Honeywell SPZ-8000, Primus-1000 and Primus-2000 flight control and display systems.
STANDARDAERO obtained STC approval for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 engine upgrades on Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft.
L-3 AVIATION PRODUCTS announced that the Lynx NGT-9000, -2500 and -2000 models are now compatible with the ForeFlight Mobile App. This combination lets users expand their ADS-B traffic and weather viewing options.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL announced
that its second simulator for the Cessna Citation Latitude aircraft has been qualified to Level D by the FAA. It also named MATTHEW DE FOE assistant manager of the Learning Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. DARRYL PRICE was promoted to assistant manager of the company's Learning Center in Long Beach, California.
VECTOR AEROSPACE entered into exclusive Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine service agreements with four leading agricultural aviation and aerial firefighting operators in Australia.
AVMAX purchased one Dash 8-103 msn 540 from Ryukyu Air Commuter Co. Ltd. of Japan.
AVIATION SPECIALTIES UNLIMITED completed its 1,000th FAA-approved night vision cockpit modification on a Bell 407GXP at Wysong Enterprises for Med-Trans Corp. In addition, ASU said that two Ecuadorian Navy pilots took a nearly 4,000-mile journey from Ecuador to Boise, Idaho, to attend Night Vision pilot training with ASU earlier this summer.
