 FAA Publishes More Details about its $500 ADS-B Rebate Program
The Federal Aviation Administration recently published more information with details about its $500 ADS-B Rebate program, which is expected to come online in late September. The incentive program is designed to help general aviation aircraft owners meet the ADS-B Out mandate and enjoy the safety benefits of the NextGen program ahead of the 2020 deadline, and to help defray equipment and installation costs. Rebates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis for one year from the fall 2016 launch or until 20,000 are claimed, whichever comes first

 AEA Connect Conferences begin in U.S. and Canada
The months of September and October will give Aircraft Electronics Association member companies four opportunities to attend one of the upcoming AEA Connect Conferences in North America. For avionics professionals looking to grow their business and satisfy their training requirements, there is no more cost-effective way to "Connect" with manufacturer sales and technical representatives. From various locations across the globe, the AEA has the venue to bring dealers and manufacturers together and get business done. Avionics shops should bring their questions straight to the exhibit hall or bring a purchase order; either way, plenty of exhibitors will be ready for business

 Chief NextGen Officer Update to Congress
Prior to Deputy FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker's departure from the agency, he submitted the annual NextGen progress report to Congress pursuant to Section 204 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. The 2016 report is titled "NextGen is Working for America" and is available in its entirety on the FAA's website.

The View from Washington: 10 Weeks of Meetings
Because the 2016 AEA International Convention & Trade Show was a bit later than usual this year, the transition from spring into summer seemed especially busy with a variety of meetings. For example, six different conferences stretched from Europe to North America to Central America and ended in Lees Summit, Missouri, with the association hosting the AEA & FAA Parts Forum in July. Meet the leaders in the general aviation industry
 Cairns Aviation Skills Centre helps shape Aviation
During the 1990s, growth in Queensland, Australia's aviation industry stagnated. Technicians faced inadequate and outdated training methods. Traveling to Brisbane for modern training proved expensive and time-consuming. The industry in Cairns was close to crisis. The Cairns aviation community and the Queensland government made a bold move, dramatically changing the landscape in just a few short years.
Seeing the need, the local aviation industry and the Department of State Development played host to an aviation forum in December 2000 in Cairns to discuss the issues. In response, the Queensland government created Aviation Australia, an organization dedicated to aircraft avionics, airframe, engine and maintenance training. Following a successful two-year trial, the local aviation industry built new training facilities at the Cairns Airport and contracted Aviation Australia to begin training its first students in 2004 at the Cairns Aviation Skills Centre

Safety Management System Coordinator Training:
Oct. 4
More and more customers and international authorities are asking for safety management systems from Aircraft Electronics Association members. To satisfy their needs, the AEA has developed a proprietary SMS program designed for maintenance organizations, sized for small businesses and leveraged by the 900-strong repair station membership. This program has been coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration and Transport Canada Civil Aviation, as well as discussions with the Australian government's Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the European Aviation Safety Agency for future acceptance.
Presented by Ric Peri, AEA vice president of government and industry affairs, the
training will provide a solid overview of modern safety principles, the International Civil Aviation Organization guidance on SMS implementation and the use and operation of the proprietary AEA SMS program.
This training program is mandatory for a repair station's accountable manager or SMS coordinator (if designated) in order to enroll a repair station in the AEA SMS program

International Rotorcraft Safety Conference:
Oct. 25-27
The FAA Rotorcraft Directorate will host its second International Rotorcraft Safety Conference, Oct. 25-27, with the goal to reduce the national helicopter accident rate. The free event will take place at the Hurst Conference Center near Ft. Worth, Texas. The target audience is rotorcraft pilots, mechanics, small-company owners, students, industry executives, operators, and government regulators from the U.S. and abroad. The conference will feature presentations from major industry and FAA leaders. Topics include improving decisions, creating a culture of safety, performing autorotations, choosing the best protection equipment, basic helicopter safety and maintenance, how flight training schools promote safety, and a presentation by a pilot who safely landed his helicopter after the engine failed. The FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute will bring its Helicopter Spatial Disorientation Demonstration exhibit that allows participants to experience various flight scenarios. Conference attendees will receive Inspection Authorization credits and WINGS pilot proficiency program credits.

HONEYWELL achieved final certification from Inmarsat for JetWave, the company's package of exclusive hardware that will allow pilots, passengers, operators and maintenance personnel to connect to GX Aviation, the new in-flight broadband service from Inmarsat.
METRO AVIATION announced that the Frasca Bell 407 Level 7 flight training device at the Helicopter Flight Training Center is now FAA-certified as a BH407GX with NVG capabilities.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION has embarked on an initiative to enable operators, dealers and installers to equip their aircraft with approved routers from third-party manufacturers that best suit their individual needs and preferences on the Gogo Biz network. The move is part of a larger initiative to provide a more open ecosystem, enabling a wider array of router options for customers to choose from, according to the company.
DAC INTERNATIONAL was sold by Greenwich AeroGroup to a fund managed by Odyssey Investment Partners LLC. The transaction was completed Aug. 10.
