Hello!

This is the first newsletter you are receiving from the Parent and Family Program at UW Oshkosh. You are receiving this email because you shared your email address with us during the Advising & Registration program earlier this year. We will communicate with you through email newsletters at least once a month. Most newsletters feature a variety of topics, including relevant deadlines and campus events. If you do not wish to receive emails from the Parent and Family Program, you can unsubscribe any time by clicking the "SafeUnsubscribe" link at the bottom of this email.

Below is information for your reference that will be shared with your student from various offices.
S unday, Sept. 4, of Labor Day weekend is the day when first-year students will move into the residence halls and start their orientation to UW Oshkosh. Your student should have received an email from Residence Life to sign up for a move-in time, which is between 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Information about New Student Move-in is available  on the housing website.  The housing website also has information about renting lofts, what to bring, move-in maps, building/room information, computer services, and roommate advice. If you have any questions about the halls before you arrive, please contact Residence Life at (920) 424-3212.

There are quite a few university offices open on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, since we realize you and your student may have some questions while you're here. Click here to view the list of offices open during move-in .

If your student is on a meal plan, their plan will start with a picnic dinner on Sunday night. Blackhawk Commons will be open over the lunch hour on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. (cash or credit). Reeve Union will also be open on Sunday, so if you get hungry during the day while moving in, head over to Reeve to grab a bite.
  • MiTaza Coffeehouse 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Marketplace 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Titan Underground 1 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
  • Convenience Store from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Bookstore will be open to purchase or pick-up pre-ordered textbooks. If your student pre-ordered their textbooks, they can be picked up in Reeve Union, room 304. They will need to bring a picture ID along. If they didn't pre-order, textbooks can be purchased in the lower level of University Books & More, located in Reeve Union. As a reminder, students can pay with cash, credit card, Titan Dollars, or charge the books to their university student account.

New Student Orientation starts at 4 p.m. on Sunday for all first-year students-- this is for students living in the halls and for students who are commuting from home. You can download the New Student Orientation schedule, and a paper version will be given to your student. There is also a  UW Oshkosh New Student Orientation app  if you'd like to download it. Orientation continues through Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, your student will start their fall classes at UW Oshkosh!

Links to several offices have been included in this email. If you can't find the information on their website, feel free to call their office. If you don't see the phone number on the website, check the University Directory. Don't know who to call? Call Titan Central at (920) 424-1234, and they will help you figure it out.

I hope your student has an easy transition to college life.  Coming from someone who has sent two children off to college, it will also be a transition for you, too. I'd like to give you some sage words of wisdom, but I realize it is a different experience for everyone. I ran into  this article which gives tips for parents of new college students. I think it has some pretty good advice.

One last thought: UW Oshkosh wants your student to succeed. We have many resources and services to help them. Please encourage your student to reach out and ask for help as soon as possible. In our next newsletter, I'll share some information about those services.

Best wishes and Welcome to the UW Oshkosh community!!
