Fantastic First Week In District Five

Thousands of students strapped on their backpacks and walked into new classrooms Monday, as District Five officially kicked off a new school year!

The district welcomed more than 8,000 students along with more than 1,000 teachers and staff members in its 12 schools.  Schools across the district reported smooth openings, thanks in large part to the work of our fantastic maintenance and transportation staff.  Director of Transportation, Ryan Cothran, and his fleet of dedicated bus drivers had all buses running on schedule early Monday morning as they picked up students for the new year.

We're looking forward to a great year, District Five!

Scooping Up A New Year

The new year got off to a sweet start for hundreds of District Five employees!

The district held its annual "Welcome Back" ice cream social last week, inviting teachers and staff to enjoy a sweet treat while they caught up with old and new friends.

Door prizes and giveaways made for a fun way to wrap up the event, and kick off a new year!

District Five Family Grows
As a new school year begins, there are a lot of new faces around District Five!  More than 100 new employees joined the District Five family this year, serving in all schools and areas of our district.

The new additions were officially welcomed during a luncheon sponsored the district and Founder's Federal Credit Union last week.  Superintendent Dr. Scott Turner, along with the District Five Teacher's Forum, offered encouragement to the group during the event.

Many of the new staff members are veterans of the teaching profession, while nearly two dozen are brand new to the classroom.

Please join us in welcoming these new members of the District Five team:  we are excited that you are here!
