Mission Investment Fund
When you invest with the ELCA's Mission Investment Fund, you help advance the ministry of our church, even as you save for your future. That's because we use the money you invest to fund building and renovation loans for ELCA congregations and ministries. Not only do your investments earn you a competitive rate of return, they replace sagging church roofs, expand Sunday school classrooms, and build brand new church buildings from the ground up. Plus, MIF is capitalized and prudently managed.

For a limited time, MIF is offering special rates on two popular Term Investments:
3.00% (APY*) for the 6-year MIF Fixed-Rate Term Investment and 2.10% (APY*) for the 4-year MIF Fixed-Rate Term Investment.

MIF's rates are available for all new 4-year and 6-year MIF Fixed-Rate Term Investments (with a minimum investment of $1,000) as well as the balances on maturing 4-year and 6-year MIF Fixed-Rate Term Investments.

These special rates will be in effect for a limited time, so act now!

Visit mif.elca.org for more information and to download an investment application.
For information on all MIF investments and ministry loans, contact MIF Customer Service at 877-886-3522 or your MIF Regional Manager, Joel S. Wudel, at (773) 682-1765 or [email protected].

Synod Youth Sail and Shine at Lake  Shasta

Twenty-Eight youth and adults joined together in July to go on a houseboat adventure on Lake Shasta, led by Janet Renick of Christ Lutheran Church of West Covina, along with four adult leaders. 12 different congregations were represented, some of which are part of the "Area-Wide Event" Ministry of the East San Gabriel Valley, also led by Janet Renick.  The group was comprised of Middle School Youth, High School Youth, and Young Adults, who served as Student Leaders. We stopped in San Francisco along the way, taking time to serve breakfast and to worship at Glide Memorial Methodist Church, located in the heart of The City.  Glide Memorial serves nearly 2,500 meals each day, so volunteers are greatly needed!
While on Lake Shasta, students learn to waterski, wake board, knee board, and/or ride on a banana boat, most doing things they've never done before. We actually take away their cell phones and electronics while on the houseboat, and students are surprisingly grateful for that! They are able to participate and not be distracted. In addition, we do daily small group Bible Studies and nightly worship under the stars! Also during the week, students have a 3-hour solo time, in which to pray, to journal, and take inventory of their lives.

If a stranger were to join our group, they never would have known who was from which church, or who met the group for the first time on the first day of the trip! Students become life-long friends, and become part of a bigger picture...to "create memories to last for an eternity." Jesus was at the helm, and we were His crew. Thanks be to God!

Reformation Roadtrip

Bishop Guy Erwin will carry Luther's message all around the Southwest California Synod with a series of six paired lectures, presented on various Saturdays from September 2016 to July 2017.  For each session, the first lecture will be an introduction to Martin Luther.  Lunch will be served, followed by an in-depth lecture about Luther's teachings. Come hear one, or come hear all; the in-depth lecture will be different every time!

Each Reformation Roadtrip event will be held from 10:00 a.m to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per event, or $50 for all six. Please bring payment in cash or check the day of the event. Checks should be made out to the Southwest California Synod.

To make your reservations for one or more Reformation Roadtrip events, please contact Jason Ramirez at [email protected].
This fall, University of California Master Gardener Volunteers will offer a four-week series on the basics of vegetable gardening at 11 sites around Los Angeles County, including Church of the Master Lutheran Church in Lancaster.  See class schedules and locations here

This low-cost Grow LA Victory Garden Initiative takes the
beginning gardener through the basics of soil preparation, planting, pest control, irrigation, and harvesting. It's the perfect way to get started as a vegetable gardener, or, if you already have some gardening experience, it's a great way to gain more knowledge in a small group, hands-on setting. Those who
complete all four sessions will become certified UC Victory Gardeners.
