TAC Talk with Robert Gipe

On June 1, 2016, our director Katie Smythe and author Robert Gipe gave the endnote for the first Collective Impact conference hosted by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Smythe spoke on the story behind our successful Creative Youth Development program:
"Our determination to help young dancers be all they can be
moved us beyond the studio and into other parts of their lives" through programs like the Family Resource Center and mentoring.

As director of Appalachian Program at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College in Harlan County, Kentucky, Gipe has researched and written a book on economic  development and the arts. He talked about his book Trampoline and  using the arts to name and explore the challenges facing communities.

The talk concluded with Dying Swan by rising senior LeAnthony Douglas.
