July 2016
Volunteers of the Month
Celebrate Recovery Teachers
Gale Nuese, attends Real Life Church; Marsha Woodruff, attends West Side Christian Church; and Barb McCord, attends Rochester Christian Church.  These three amazing women have been dedicated Celebrate Recovery Teachers at Contact Ministries since May 2012! The Celebrate Recovery class is a 12-step recovery program to provide hope and healing to the women who live in our Transitional Shelter.  Not only do Gale, Marsha and Barb teach the principles of Celebrate Recovery, but they also attend an outreach program on a regular basis for their own personal growth and healing. A key element of Celebrate Recovery is "giving a hand up" and working with the many women who are struggling in different areas of their lives.  During class time, the women have the chance to share their stories while supporting one another. The teachers stated that their favorite part about teaching this class is; "seeing the women's lives transform and encouraging them on their journey of recovery and breakthrough."

Celebrate Recovery is truly a beneficial program for the women living in the Transitional Shelter. We are so thankful for Gale, Marsha and Barb and their continued dedication to teaching and empowering women!
Transitional Shelter Summer Camp
This summer has been very exciting for the children in Contact Ministries' Summer Camp! Every week, they learned about a different country; it's language, people, climate and animals. June and July were months of growth and adventure for the children as they learned about Ghana, Canada and Mexico.  With the Olympics right around the corner, the children virtually traveled to Brazil! What a great learning experience for all!!

Thank you to our speakers who took the time to come and share your knowledge about each country!

Featured Partner

United Way of Central Illinois

Contact Ministries and Helping Hands of Springfield have partnered together on a collaborative grant through United Way of Central Illinois. We were awarded a three-year grant for the two emergency shelters that provide assistance to homeless men, single women, and women with children. This is the first collaborative grant that United Way of Central Illinois has funded. We look forward to our continued partnership with Helping Hands and United Way of Central Illinois. This grant will allow us to fulfill the mission we feel so strongly about; serving the most vulnerable people in our community with emergency food and shelter.
