Prices in about 50% of the states have now recovered to their 2006 peaks. This chart breaks out each state's progress based on averages.  Of course, individual areas may be hot (or cold).  For example, after 4 years of sky high home prices in San Francisco, home buyers are starting to see some relief with falling prices.  Median prices for the Chicago Metro area is up an average of 7.3%.  Median prices in Orland Park, a south suburb of Chicago, have increased on average 8.7% from a year ago.
