Drive high, get a DUI
While cannabis is now legalized for recreational and medicinal use in many states, it is still illegal in all states to drive under the influence of it. Law enforcement was out in full force April 19-20 and will continue to crack down on drugged driving offenders.

Driving drug impaired or riding with someone who is drug impaired is not worth the risk. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while substance impaired can be significant. The consequences are serious and real.  Read more .
Innovations highlight annual showcase
MoDOT recently celebrated the imagination and problem-solving skills of its workers. The Innovations Challenge Showcase inspires employees to develop best practices that are recognized on originality, transferability , conservation of resources and organizational impact, then share those innovations statewide. Yipes, stripes!
Spring cleaning not only involves your house, but also Missouri's roadways. Part of annual maintenance is repainting the lines on the road. Soon drivers will see slow-moving caravans of trucks refreshing the lines on the roadway with paint that contains glass beads that reflect light from headlights in the dark. Read more
Watch for mowing crews
A sure sign of springtime: motorists seeing tractor mowers near the shoulder of interstates and other roadways. MoDOT mows about 400,000 acres of grass each year, which is equivalent to 300,000 football fields. Motorists need to be on the lookout for slow-moving equipment. Read more .

This day in transportation history
April 25, 1959 - The Saint Lawrence Seaway – a network of locks, canals and channels that provides a link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes – was opened to commercial maritime traffic. The Seaway is one of the world’s most comprehensive inland navigation systems. Watch a short video of the grand opening.
