Our Summer Program, Camps, and Events Guide is available online and in the HCC. Summer camp and program registration is ongoing for Town residents and at 10am on Tuesday, April 30 for non-Town residents.  

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department provides fun-filled summer camps and programs! Campers can unplug and play, make new friends, and learn additional skills. Our camps are designed to provide entertainment and enrichment for a few hours, a half-day or a full-day.

Bike To Work Day - May 17

Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association invite you to celebrate bicycling as a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work. Be one of the first 20,000 to register and attend this FREE EVENT, then bike to your choice of more than 100 pit stops in DC, MD, and VA and receive a free T-shirt, refreshments, and be entered into a raffle for a new bicycle. Herndon’s pit stop on the Town Hall Green, just off the W&OD Trail, is open from 5:30-10am and 4:30-6pm. Sign-up today!
Play It Safe: Bike Rodeo & Safety Fair - May 18
and Kids to Parks Day

Bike or scooter on over to the Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn Street, for a day filled with fun and safety! On Saturday, May 18 from 10am-2pm kids can learn safety tips and riding skills, and complete obstacle courses. The Bike Rodeo will be held from 11am-1pm. Play a virtual reality game in a REAL Camaro. We will also have a bike swap on-site, children can trade in a bike they've outgrown for a bigger one! Bike donations are welcome. There will be refreshments, bike inspections, and a limited amount of bike helmets given away. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Plan ahead and bike to the event on the W&OD Trail. Free and no registration required.

Plus, Saturday, May 18 is Kids to Parks Day! This is an annual, nation-wide event that encourages outdoor play and adventure. Organized by the National Park Trust, municipalities across the nation participate each year. To celebrate, join us at this event or play in a local, regional, or national park. 
Herndon Festival - New Location, Same Great Festival

Put the 39th annual Herndon Festival, May 30-June 2, on your calendar! The Herndon Festival will be held at Northwest Federal Credit Union, 200 Spring Street, Herndon, VA.

The four-day festival features over 50 entertainment acts, a carnival, a children’s hands-on art area, arts & crafts show, business expo, 10K/5K races and fitness expo, and an eclectic variety of top-quality food vendors. Travel to the Herndon Festival in ease, take our free shuttle bus from Worldgate Drive/Peraton Building OR Herndon High School. Parking will be limited around the Festival. The Herndon Festival is free and open to the public, although there is a charge for some activities. Herndon Festival 10K/5K Races - June 2

The Herndon Festival 10K/5K Races will be held Sunday, June 2 at the HCC and registration is now open! The race courses take you through historic downtown Herndon during Herndon Festival weekend. Both the 10K and 5K courses are USATF certified. Medals are presented to the top two finishers from each age group, from the 10 & under to 70 & over.

A t-shirt will be given to the first 800 preregistered 10K and 5K participants. Following the race, participants can enjoy refreshments, door prizes, music and an medal ceremony. Breakfast breads and muffins will be provided compliments of Great Harvest Bread Company. In addition, runners will have the opportunity to visit vendors in our Fitness Expo and pick up some special offers. Friends of Runnymede Native Plant Sale & Bird Walk

Spring Native Plant Sale, Saturday, May 18, 9am-2pm, in Runnymede Park. Two vendors will sell with their locally grown, pesticide-free, native plants for your landscape. Native plants are well suited to our climate, our soil, and our native bees and butterflies love them. This event is produced by the Friends of Runnymede Park.

On the second Saturday of each month, the Friends of Runnymede will host a bird walk in Runnymede Park. Join them on Saturday, May 11, 8am, which is World Migratory Bird Day. Meet in the parking lot. Bring binoculars, or borrow a pair of theirs. Free and no registration required.
Happy 40th Anniversary HCC Pass Sale

The Herndon Community Center (HCC) has proudly served the residents of the Town of Herndon and surrounding areas for 40 years! Thank you to everyone who has worked out or participated in a HCC class or program. We are offering - 40 Days for $40 Pass to the HCC. The pass is good for 40 consecutive days and everyone is welcome to purchase one per family member. The pass may be purchased now through May 5 at the HCC.

Let’s celebrate the past 40 years and hope for a healthier and stronger community for the decades to come.

Preschool, 2019-2020 School Year Registration

Exciting new changes are coming to the Herndon Community Center Preschool. Now ages 4 & 5 will meet daily Monday through Friday, 9am-12pm, with an emphasis on skills needed to enter kindergarten, plus field trips, outside free play, music, swimming and holiday activities to celebrate diversity in our classroom. Children must be 4 by September 30, 2019.

Preschool Prep will focus on ages 3 & 4 and they will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3pm.
 
Our interactive, play-based curriculum fosters your child’s sense of responsibility and independence through daily activities. Parents and children love our outdoor courtyard for play, games, and arts & crafts, while enjoying on-site access to a full-sized gymnasium, large outdoor playground and indoor swimming pool. The program will run September 9-June 12 (generally following Fairfax County Public School schedule).

*A $75 nonrefundable deposit and child’s proof of age (such as birth certificate or passport) are due at the time of registration. Fees are payable on a convenient payment plan of 10 installments. 
Kings Dominion & Soak City Discounted Tickets

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department is now selling 2019 Kings Dominion & Soak City discounted tickets in conjunction with the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society.

There are two ticket options:
1. Good Any Day - $41 valid any 2019 park operating day except park rental days
2. Super Saver Day - $39 valid on the following dates except park rental days:
  • Now-May 19, July 5-July 31, and September 21-October 27
Tickets are for ages 3 & up. There are no returns for online sales. Ticket prices do not include parking.
