Another June,
Another Successful Conference!
The “ECNO 2018 – Explore the Possibil-IT-ies!” conference has come and gone, and the reviews are in: it was a resounding success!

Attended by nearly 500 attendees and exhibitors, the conference covered a wide range of topics shared by over 50 sponsors. New this year was the ECNO showcase that was a chance for ECNO and our K212 partner Keous to talk about the many new and exciting things coming down the pipe for both our organizations.

The keynote speakers at ECNO are always the highlights of the conference. The conference was kicked off by Doc James Whittaker's talk, focusing on ‘The Rise of the Machines, artificial intelligence and ‘answers are always in the data.’” His take was refreshing and insightful for those of us in the education sector reminding everyone that we must keep a close eye on the future in order to stay relevant. As he said, "If you want to get to the future...follow someone who can code."

The closing keynote by the resilient Amanda Lindhout was a powerful talk about the power of transformation and the value that education plays in making a more just and equitable world. There was not a dry eye in the house after Amanda’s talk.
This year’s conference was also highlighted by the presenting of a cheque for more than $12,000 to the conference's chosen charity, About Face . Established in 1985, About Face s goal is to support individuals and families affected by facial differences. More than two million Canadians are living with a facial difference including conditions like cleft lip and palate, Treacher Collins Syndrome and Microtia. About Face programs focus on empowering individuals, providing education and awareness around living with a facial difference and promoting inclusiveness. The funds raised came from proceeds from the golf tournament and a very successful 50/50 draw.
Our thanks to the organizing committee for all their hard work and dedication. A special note of thanks to Francis Mailloux as conference chair for his tireless efforts. It is clear that the conference is a real passion and team effort for Francis. When asked to reflect on the conference this was his reply: “It is a great pleasure and dream working with such a high performing team to organize the conference. The ECNO conference committee is a true testament to excellence in collaboration!”

Mark your calendar for next year’s conference : June 2-4, 2019 at the Nottawasga Inn!
