Cross Country
On Friday, the girls' varsity cross-country team and one individual from the boys' varsity team traveled to Mt. San Antonio College for CIF-SS Prelims. On one of the toughest courses in the state—and in record-breaking temperatures—the lady Panthers finished fourth in their heat and advanced to Finals next Saturday.
Junior Aishling Callanan dominated her race with the second-fastest time of the day and a time of 17:57. Junior Madison Woodward was the second Panther across the line with a ninth-place finish, and Sophmore Roxanne Rahimi stepped up to finish third for her team with a 28th-place finish. Also of note was fourth-place scoring freshman Rylee Woodward, and senior Sam Shao who rounded out the Panther team scoring by finishing fifth on the squad.
Senior captain and athlete of the year nominee Connor Spencer was the lone runner for the boys and ran a strong race to end up 16th overall in the 90-degree-plus heat.
The lady Panthers will return to Mt. SAC next weekend to compete in the highly competitive CIF-SS Finals on their road to state championships in Fresno.
