Parish Reopening Leadership Team
Last week, the Archdiocese of Chicago presented a multi phased plan to safely open parishes for public worship. The safety and well-being of parishioners is, of course, a top priority of the plan. To that end, the Archdiocese issued requirements of each parish: to facilitate the reopening of our church, Our Lady of Hope must assemble a Parish Reopening Leadership Team. As you read in the email to parishioners this past Sunday, we are looking for volunteers to be part of this team.
Please consult the
email
for the details. If you wish to volunteer, or if you have questions, please contact Colleen (
cortega@ourladyofhopechurch.com
). Please consider this opportunity, without your support, Our Lady of Hope is unable to reopen.
Peace and blessings.

Novena to the Holy Spirit
|
|
And while staying with them [Jesus] charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “You heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”—Acts 1:4-5
|
|
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he commanded his apostles to “wait for the promise of the Father” in Jerusalem. Nine days later the apostles celebrated the Jewish feast of Pentecost, and God fulfilled his promise by sending the Holy Spirit.
It was the first “novena.”
In a unique way, we can imitate their example and join them in the Upper Room, waiting for the Advocate to come. We can prepare our hearts for the coming of the Holy Spirit and kindle a fire within us that God can set ablaze.
How can we do that?
The most basic action we can do to prepare for Pentecost is pray the “Novena to the Holy Spirit,” meditating on the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit each day, beginning Friday, May 22.
It is a beautiful practice that puts us there with the apostles and Mary, experiencing the graces of Pentecost as if it was our first.

Laudato
Si
This week marks the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical,
Laudato
Si': On Care for our Common Home.
The title whose translation means, "Praise Be to You" is from St. Francis' 13 century "Canticle of the Sun," a poem and prayer in which God is praised for the creation of the earth and all that is in it. in the document, Pope Francis mentions consumerism and irresponsible development as detrimental to Creation. He is saddened by environmental degradation and global warming, and calls on all people to take "swift and unified global action."
You can read the document by clicking this
Link.
|
|
As we witness the renewal of the earth this spring, let us pray one of the prayers from the encyclical:
A Prayer for Our Earth
All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.
Pope Francis,
Laudato Si'
