From the Director
Greetings Madrone Trail Community,
Well, you may have noticed that I was at school this week. My wife and I are not really the best at just waiting around so given she continued to go work after her due date, I did too. Perhaps I will be here next week as well, who knows. No one on the Bissey side of the family is surprised he is running late and has his own agenda.
Being in this limbo state is very distracting. A teacher came in to my office yesterday and asked “John, do you have time right now for a kid?” I was a little shocked and replied, “Well, I have been pondering that for about 9 months now.” We had a good laugh as she was asking if I could take a walk with a youngster who was having a rough morning.
The support, adorable hand-knitted hats, and well-wishes just keep coming. Thank you all so very much.
-John Bissey

Board Update
Greetings Madrone Trail Community!
After my calls to action for board service, a number of people contacted me with inquiries and interest. Thank you for answering the call! I am pleased to announce that at our last meeting, Kelly Stofflet and Krista Peterson officially joined the board of Madrone Trail! Kelly is the parent of a 1st grader at Madrone Trail, and Krista is a former board member, whose child went through Madrone Trail and is now a senior at South Medford High School. You will learn more about them in subsequent Friday Updates, and we are very excited to have their contributions to the school!
As I alluded to previously, Steve Farrington has officially rolled off the board to focus on his skyward career with the Grange Co-op! He has been a tremendous pillar of stability with us, and extremely professional and accommodating to ensure our board had functioning numbers.
We’re currently sitting at 6 members, which is safe, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we are done. We are talking to a number of people still, and I think about 8 members would be an ideal target. We’re happy to consider anyone who believes in the school and we feel would bring value to the board and school. You’re welcome to chat with current and past board members, and we encourage everyone to meet with board members prior to submitting an application. Our next board meeting is October 13th if you’d like to see what those are like. Thanks for your support, and I hope to catch up with you all at a Parent Night or some other time!
Regards,
Erik Johnsen
Board President

Madrone Trail Basketball Announcements
New Cascade/Grace schools partnership!
Recently, I accepted the Varsity Girls basketball coaching position at Cascade High School. This will have minimal impact on my roles at Madrone Trail. Being a varsity coach is a dream come true for me and has allowed me to form a partnership between the Grace/Cascade school system and Madrone Trail. Starting October 2nd, the Saturday Madrone Trail basketball practices will be held in the brand new Grace Christian school gym! To get there; enter behind the school, by turning on Business Park Drive off of Biddle. This is an amazing opportunity for our Madrone Trail basketball players.
New Time Slots
Due to wonderful student turnout at basketball club last week, I have divided the students into 3 groups moving forward. Everyone who has a completed registration form was emailed their new time that starts this Saturday, September 25. If you do not know your student’s time, please email me at jeff.roberson@madronetrail.org. Please read the updates weekly in case there are any time changes due to my Cascade basketball responsibilities.
- Group A (10-11 am)

Parking Lot Drop Off Procedures
Please observe the following:
- Pull all the way up to the end of the new fencing to drop off your student. The second opening is for overflow only.
- Do not let your student out of the car between the rainbow crosswalk and the new fencing if there is a long line. It creates more problems than it solves.
- Ensure your student has everything they need ready to go when you pull up to the drop off spots, including backpacks, lunches, water bottles, and masks.
-
Only use the inner lane if you choose to park and walk your child onto campus. We do not want unaccompanied students walking through the parking lot by themselves. Cross traffic lanes only at the rainbow crosswalk or by the far drop off spot where the fence ends.
Thank you for helping keep our parking lot running smoothly and safely for all.

Meet Amanda Gerig-
Choir Teacher 6th-8th grade
Amanda Gerig discovered her love of music as a six year old when she saw her first live musical, Sondheim's Into the Woods. She has been singing ever since! Choral singing has been a consistent source of enjoyment and inspiration in her life, which led her to pursue a bachelor of music degree at Oregon State University where she studied vocal performance and music education. Upon graduating, Amanda got married to her best friend and they moved to beautiful Seattle where she was a member with the Seattle Symphony Chorale. In 2010, they moved to the Rogue Valley to begin a family and stretch out a bit, establishing a 3 acre hobby farm and raising kids, both the human kind and the goat kind! Amanda has fallen in love with Southern Oregon and all of its many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, as well as the thriving arts community. She has sung with various choirs, theaters and opera companies, and has also enjoyed teaching private voice and piano lessons. Aside from farming and music, Amanda is an avid reader and yoga enthusiast.
Amanda first discovered Waldorf as she was researching homeschooling curriculum, and found ways to incorporate many Waldorf philosophies into their days. All three of her children now attend Madrone Trail, and she is excited to be combining her passions for Waldorf and for music into the choir program.
