Thursday, April 25th: Uniform Buy Out Day
Per a request from the 2018-2019 Heads of School for the Day, Ayden & Easton Isley, tomorrow (Thursday, April 25th) will be a Summit Uniform Buy Out Day.
The cost to participate in this buy out is one new or gently used book that will be donated to an Ozark community organization. The Isley brothers won this special privilege at the 2018 Summit Gala.
Make sure you bid high at the 2019 Summit Gala at the Darr Agricultural Center so your child can have this coveted position next school year!

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast: Thursday, April 25th
SPO would like to celebrate all of our wonderful volunteers that work so hard to support our school. Please join us for a Volunteer Appreciation event on Thursday, April 25th from 8:00-8:45 a.m. at The Summit Prep. SPO will be serving light refreshments and would love to see you there!
This event is for ALL Summit volunteers whether you've served on a committee, helped at an event or in the classroom, or donated to a project. Thank you for all you do to support our school!

Grandparents Day: Pick Up Permission
The Summit Preparatory School's Grandparents Day is Tuesday, May 7th. Please fill out this brief form to let us know if your child has permission to leave campus with their grandparent/grandfriend after school events on this day.
Note: Tuesday 5/7 is an early release day. There is no Fun Zone on this day.

Mini Golf Tournament
The Summit Parent Organization is hosting the 3rd annual Miniature Golf Tournament! Teams of four will compete in this family friendly event. Ticket includes one round of mini-golf.
Cost is $20 per person, with sponsorships available.
The event will be at Swing Right Golf at 444 E. Farm Rd 192 in Springfield. The event begins at 10:00 a.m.

Nature, Art, & Recycling Camp
1st-5th Grade
Earth Day Every Day! Create art using objects from nature. Enjoy printmaking, paintings, and sculptures using natural objects such as leaves, flowers, sticks, rocks, and shells. Learn how artists use nature as a source of design, and then discover how to use recycled objects to create a work of art.

Grandparents Day: Tuesday, May 7th
The Summit's Grandparents Day Celebration is coming up on Tuesday, May 7th. Look for an email coming later this week with information that you can also forward to your grandparents and grandfriends. Here's a brief run down of activities for the day:
- All grandparents and grandfriends are invited to attend.
- Festivities begin at 9:15 a.m. on our campus at 202 E. Walnut Lawn. (Note: Students should still arrive by 8:45 a.m. to prep for the morning.)
- Grandparents Day will conclude between 11-11:30 a.m. If you would like your grandparent/grandfriend to pick-up your student(s) for dismissal, you must fill out this form.
- There is no afternoon Fun Zone on Tuesday 4/7 - all students must be picked up by 11:30 a.m.
- The Spring Concert is Tuesday 4/7 at the Gillioz Theatre. The show begins at 6:30 p.m., but be sure to arrive early to secure your seats and parking spot. Mr. Keech will send out more information closer to the event.

Summit High Schoolers Present to Chamber of Commerce
Summit juniors, Evan M. and Faith G., will present their capstone projects through
GO CAPS (Greater Ozarks Centers for Advanced Professional Studies) tonight (Tuesday, April 24th) from 6-8 p.m. at the Mercy McAuley Conference Center. All are invited to attend the presentation. Evan and Faith are currently in the Medical track for GO CAPS, a program through the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
Greater Ozarks Centers for Advanced Professional Studies (GO CAPS) is a unique, yearlong learning experience that allows high school juniors and seniors to test drive future career options. Students develop real world professional skills as they are embedded in partner businesses.

3-7: First week of Camp Raven, Summer Camp at The Summit

PreK: Learning and Growing
PreK students have focused on
Living/Non-Living Things. They studied a variety of living creatures in their world, including humans! Students learned that living things grow, change, and reproduce. Living things need food, air, and water to live. Non-Living things do not grow, change, or reproduce. They do not need food, water, or air. The PreK compared, measured, and observed how living things actually change and grow. Mrs. Michaliszyn asked parents to send in pictures of their children when they were babies so that they could see changes in their own body in the last 5 years. They were amazed!
As a culminating activity, 6th grade buddies brought a picture of themselves when they were in PreK. The 6th graders worked with their PreK buddy to trace their bodies on large paper. They compared their sizes, measured their length and width, and drew their distinct features.

Model UN: The Power of Levees
After reading about recent flooding along the Missouri River due to heavy rain and issues with levees, Mr. Powers and Mrs. Smith brainstormed a STEM challenge for the Model United Nations (MUN) students to complete in March. Mr. Powers compiled a list of items, created a pricing chart, and gave each team of students an equal amount of currency. Students were tasked with creating a levee that held water successfully. The team who could complete this task while spending the least amount of money won. After seeing how challenging this turned out to be, students completed a reflection that asked them about the purpose of a levee and the costs of materials. It was a wonderful chance for teachers to see students collaborate and work effectively to be successful.

Upper School College Visits
On Tuesday, Summit 8th grade and high school students made the trek to central Missouri to visit the University of Missouri - Columbia (Mizzou) and Westminster College in Fulton, MO. The trip was organized by Summit Guidance Counselor Mrs. Becky Breckner as an opportunity for students to visit two different campuses (public vs. liberal arts, large campus vs. small campus). Mrs. Breckner has taken Summit high schoolers on several such college visits throughout the years, including trips to St. Louis, Kansas City, and Arkansas.

Time to Celebrate: Mrs. Anderson & Mr. Gronniger

Please join us for a Backyard Bash Celebrating Mrs. Anderson's 41 years of teaching. Summit students and their families are invited to join us in the backyard on Thursday, May 9th from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. We'll celebrate with music, a special treat, and well wishes for Mrs. Anderson.
The party continues from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Highland Springs.

Please join us at Summit's Field Day 2019 as we celebrate Mr. Gronniger's 5 years at The Summit. Summit families are encouraged to attend Field Day on Thursday, May 16th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in Summit's backyard. We'll be doing a variety of "Mr. G" activities and honoring our Head of School Emeritus with some of his "favorite" things. More details will follow within the week!

Summit Girl Scouts Blanket Making Party
Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
The Summit Girl Scouts need your help to turn fleece fabric into no-sew security blankets that will be given to the Child Advocacy Center of Springfield! Guests may come and go anytime between 2-4p. These blankets will go a long way in helping children cope with significant stress in their lives.
All family and friends are welcome to pitch-in. We will also be collecting new or gently used toys and books to supplement our blanket donations. There will be snacks, games, and most of all, a great sense of "doing good."
We look forward to seeing many people from the Summit community and beyond contributing a LITTLE bit of their time to help the Summit Girl Scouts make a BIG impact on others.
