Hunterdon In Person 9-11 Ceremony Remembers First Responders Lost
And Recognizes Their Risks Today

Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred W. Brown asked those gathered on Friday at the County’s 9-11 Remembrance ceremony to not only remember the nearly 400 First Responders who died in the line of duty on September 11th, 2001, but to also recognize that First Responders are today at risk saving others during the current COVID-19 public health emergency.
Brown was joined by Acting Prosecutor Mike Williams, guest speaker Senator Mike Doherty, county and local officials, law enforcement officers, Rescue Squad members, volunteer Fire Fighters, and Veterans from throughout the county at the annual Remembrance event, on the steps of the Historic Courthouse in Flemington.
The Sheriff said that while others in the state had canceled or taken their 9-11 events virtual, “For me there was no question – remembering the loss of life, particularly the 16 residents of Hunterdon County who perished, the sacrifices of the first responders on that horrific day 19 years ago, and the way it has changed our nation, in my opinion, is too important not to hold this remembrance in person.”

County Launches New
Economic Initiative Showcasing Hunterdon Main Streets

Hunterdon County has launched a new initiative designed to highlight the appeal of visiting the county’s many vibrant main street business districts. At the center of the campaign is the new HunterdonMainStreets.com website, which shines a light on seven Hunterdon communities and all that they have to offer residents. The site is similar in theme to the recently launched Hunterdon 579 Trail website, which focused on local agricultural and agritourism assets.
Hunterdon County Freeholder Matt Holt, the Board’s Economic Development liaison, said, “The program continues the implementation of a key element of the county economic development strategy to act in partnership with businesses, to bolster technology, cultivate talent, and grow a robust economy.
Created by the economic development office with input from each of the represented communities, the website spotlights Lambertville, Stockton, Frenchtown, Milford, Clinton, High Bridge, and Flemington. Each town’s page features beautiful photos, local things to do, an overview of the main street business district, as well as links to local websites.

Historic Preservation Grants
Aiding Tourism Approved By Hunterdon Freeholder Board

The Hunterdon County Freeholder Board, at the September 1st meeting, continued the County’s commitment to historic preservation and tourism through the approval of four grants, funded by the County’s Historic Preservation Fund, for projects listed in the New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places in Flemington, Stockton and Kingwood Township.
Freeholder John E. Lanza, the Board’s liaison for Planning and Land Use and the Cultural and Heritage Commission, said, “Historic preservation has financial, as well as cultural benefits. Studies have demonstrated that historic preservation creates positive economic benefits, particularly in tourism. Preservation advocates point to the preservation of structures and heritage for the attraction of visitors and investment.”

Hunterdon Freeholders Call On Legislators To Restore $2.6 Million Cut To County’s Schools
Freeholder John E. Lanza reported, “The Governor presented his second budget of the year on August 25th and, despite this second chance, he still cut school aid to 20 Hunterdon County school districts by over 2.6 million dollars. Incredibly, there is no change from the Governor’s school aid cuts presented in February. This, despite the fact that the Governor proposes borrowing $4 billion dollars to support the state budget for nine months, until next June.”
