Chairman's Message
Dear Radnor Friends and Neighbors:
Please take note of the
May 21 primary election for our Township and County candidates
. All of these individuals have volunteered to lead our community by donating their time and talents. I know each of them, and they are outstanding individuals.
I hope that you will take a few minutes to get to know them yourselves by reading their profiles
here
on our website,
www.RadnorGOP.org
.
Each candidate is worthy of your vote on May 21, and your vote during the primary sends an important message of support from the community.
Our School Board Directors and Judges for the Court of Common Pleas are contested races
, so it is important that our endorsed candidates prevail, and, to do so, they will need your support at the polls. So please mark your calendars now. You can also
request an absentee ballot here
if your plans for May 21 might take you out of town (more information available below).
Many of the candidates joined our fellow Republicans for a morning of community service on March 30 when
30 or so of us teamed up to “clean-up” the Willows Park
(see below). With the guidance of a professional arborist, we were able to remove invasive vines growing on the many willow trees between the bridges in the park. The Radnor Republican Committee will sponsor more events like this in the future to help
maintain and beautify our township through community service
. I hope that more of you will join us for future events.

Finally, our dear friend
Susan Michaelson
, Vice Chairwoman of the Radnor Republican party, passed away on April 11. Susan was a leader with the extraordinary ability to understand and communicate conservative values and policies with ease, and she was responsible for much of our written communications.
Everything Susan touched was made better by her involvement.
She had a deep knowledge of a brea
d
th of topics that made her both readily accessible to a friendly chat or a deep discussion of life’s great mysteries. We deeply mourn her passing. Our community has not only lost a great leader but a true friend. I've shared some additional thoughts below.
Howard Gartland
Chairman
Radnor Republican Committee

Remembering
Susan Michaelson
It is with regret that we pass on the sad news of the passing of Susan Michaelson. Chairman Howard Gartland shares the following:
Susan was a beautiful woman whom I got to know on the soccer, baseball and lacrosse fields of Radnor and wherever else the games would take us. It was during one of these events that Susan approached me about getting involved with the Republican School Board campaign that year. For those of you who know her well, “approached me” doesn’t quite capture Susan’s passion and energy for all her endeavors. I think her “request” went more like “Howie – get off your duff and get in the game!” Susan’s emphatic “requests” were exceeded only by her own extraordinary commitment and work effort in all of her endeavors.
Susan’s contributions to our community were substantial and lasting. As a School Board director for eight years, Susan’s keen financial acumen was instrumental in reshaping the School District’s financial structure after the 2008 financial crisis. The District was able to sustain and even increase services while dramatically reducing the rate of growth of the budget. Respected by all with whom she worked, her strong advocacy for curriculum programming and School District leadership has secured District excellence for years to come.
Always committed to Republican and conservative values, Susan helped to lead our Republican team in Radnor as Vice Chairwoman for the past year. She had a keen ability to understand and communicate conservative values and policies with ease, and she was responsible for much of our written communications….and, frankly, good ideas.
Please join me in remembering Susan’s exemplary contributions to our community delivered with the wisdom and unwavering Christian and conservative values of a beautiful woman, who many of us were fortunate to call “friend.”
Susan's full obituary may be found
here
.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26 at noon in Ardmore Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception at the Radnor Hotel.

Clean Up at the Willows
On Saturday, March 30th, members of the Radnor Republican community and friends descended on the Willows Park for a Spring Clean-Up. Their goal was to clean out the invasive plants, vines and growth that are choking the area, and threatening the willow trees along the creek between the two bridges in the park. Invasive vines that had grown into the trees and branches of more than 30 trees were removed allowing the trees to flourish in 2019! Thank you to all who participated!
In the photo below,
Tim Lowry, candidate for commissioner for Radnor’s 3rd ward, and Radnor School Board candidates Laura Foran, Matt Mabe and Ben Sydnes, take a brief but well-earned break. Above, Matt Mabe wrestles with some pesky vines.
The Radnor Republican Committee is planning future events that bring together volunteers to help maintain and beautify our community.
Together, let’s keep Radnor beautiful!
