Spring is a time of renewal, an annual ritual of cleansing and reflecting on where we are and where we want to be after hunkering down all winter. As community developers, we are used to change - facilitating it, crafting it, guiding it with our community partners. It may be fair to say that this is our favorite time of year! It's a brief time to get ourselves refreshed and organized to progress with the year ahead and move closer to another one of our favorite times of year - our annual summer gathering. This year we have even more to look forward - our homecoming and 50th Anniversary!

Cindy is doing some exciting work developing partnerships with the International Association of Community Development and Ticco.

CONFERENCE NEWS
c ontribute to our collective history and future. Third , a number of international presenters and participants will enrich or networking and understanding of community development in our global and interconnected world. Fourth , we are featuring only a small sampling of central Missouri’s finest in the mobile workshops, opportunities to dine downtown on Monday night and enjoy Central Dairy ice cream Monday night at the Ice Cream Social in the Orr Street Studios. Fifth , the traditional CDS Soapbox is making a return, with some very accomplished and colorful barker parkers (If you don’t know what that term means, then you just have to check it out).

A little more to entice you—this conference is occurring on the Mizzou (also known as MU or the University of Missouri) campus in the beautiful Bond Life Sciences Center, which in itself fosters networking for participants—only .8 mile from the two designated conference hotels and a mere block from modern dormitory space. And this means participants will be close to Columbia’s downtown, which has its own wonderful atmosphere and collection of unique and wonderful experiences to offer.
50th Anniversary Conference Plenary:
Practical Wisdom for a Better World
Using photographs and words submitted by participants, and demonstrating a group conversation process designed to encourage active listening, the opening plenary of this year’s CDS conference will provide an opportunity to explore how we can expand and strengthen our community development practice to make this world better.

Like the CDS founders 50 years ago, we are living in tumultuous times. And like them, we have much practical wisdom to offer—ideas about finding the right way to do the right thing. To compile and communicate our collective wisdom, we will use the Kiva process—originally a way that native people of the North American southwest discussed important issues—to ask: What should we keep doing/stop doing/start doing in seeking change?

Join the action! Submit pictures or words .
