Heart Health in the Workplace
February is Heart Health Month
During the pandemic, you may be exercising less, limiting your trips outside, and eating less healthy foods. Take a moment during Heart Health Month to learn how you can lower your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We can take steps to a healthier heart every day--both in the workplace and at home.
Tips for Lowering Heart Disease Risk
Eat a healthy diet that focuses on a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish, whole grains, and low-fat dairy. Try to limit saturated fats, sodium, and added sugars. Maintain a healthy weight. Get new recipes.

Quit Smoking. Smoking increases risk of developing CVD by damaging arteries and reducing the amount of oxygen in the blood. Talk to your doctor about helping you quit and read our smoking cessation guide.

Exercise regularly. Strive to exercise at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes a week of vigorous exercise can improve overall heart health. Talk to your doctor before starting a new physical activity regimen.

Reduce and manage stress through techniques like mindfulness.
A new occupational health podcast
The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) sits down with Ismail Nabeel, MD, MPH, MS, FACOEM, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, to discuss emerging challenges in the workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic.
