Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony

Let us remember our fallen Service Members on Memorial Day.

The Events Committee was tentatively planning a Memorial Day Picnic and Remembrance gathering but after reviewing the latest COVID-19 requirements, our concerns for our member’s health and safety, we are not able to meet for our annual Picnic. In its place we have planned a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony and Veterans Food Drive.

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony
Our County Chair and a few of our Democratic Veterans will meet at a social distance at the Plano Veterans Memorial Park, 2101 Bay Hill Dr, Plano, TX 75023 ( map) at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25 to lay a wreath. This will be posted as a Facebook Live event on our CCDP Facebook page.
Veterans Food Drive
We have arranged a Veterans Food Drive Collection to donate items to the Veterans Center of North Texas. Suggested Items are Peanut Butter, Cereal Bars. Canned Goods, Tuna, Vienna Sausages, Chili, Spaghetti, Fruit in Juice, Mixed Veggies, Fruit Juice, Face Masks and Toilet Paper. Another type of donation would be Toiletry Kits in individual baggies, containing some or all of these items: toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, wash cloth, shampoo, soap, deodorant.

A donation drop box will be located outside of the Party Office 1915 N Central Expressway, Suite 150, Plano TX 75075 on the morning of Friday May 22nd thru the end of day Sunday May 31st. We will pick up items as least once a day in the evenings. You may call ahead if you like to let us know you are dropping off items (972-578-1483) or email eventschair@collindemocrats.org .

Thank you for your generosity towards the men and women who have served in the armed forces!
What’s the Message?
by
Mike Rawlins, County Chair
The question that new Democratic activists almost always ask is "What's our message?"

It isn’t “not Trump” or “not Republican.” We always tell candidates to talk about what they’re for before they talk about their opponents, if they talk about them at all. And with the media covering Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic 24/7 and the Republican’s fawning defense of him, we really don’t need to say anything about it.

What voters want to hear is why they should vote for Democrats – what we’re going to do better. We promise:
  • Competent government
  • A sound economy that works for everyone
  • Social and economic justice
  • Health care for all
  • Restoring the environment
  • And so much more

Too many of us are looking for the magic catchphrase or that perfect soundbite that sums up everything we’re about in one sentence. They don’t exist, because every voter is different and how we talk about all of this needs to be aimed directly at the individual voter. And “we” is important! It’s not up to just the party or even individual candidates to tell the story. We all have to, in our own words, and to our friends, neighbors, and families.

Find the message that works for you with whoever you’re talking with, and tell that story. Let’s win!
