JUNE 24 DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR 2020 OCBA POSITIONS
The Orange County Bar Association invites you to apply for 2020 OCBA Board of Directors & Office of Secretary
Deadline to Apply: 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019
Qualified individuals are now being sought to run for open seats on the Orange County Bar Association's Board of Directors for three-year terms beginning January 1, 2020. Nominations are being accepted for four seats for Directors At Large. All active attorney OCBA members are eligible to run for the Director At Large seats on the Board, regardless of the location of their principal office.
Nominations are also being accepted for the Office of Secretary. The individual elected as Secretary will serve a one-year term in that office beginning January 1, 2020. This is a multi-year commitment. Following their year as Secretary, the individual will be expected to continue to serve on the Executive Committee in the following capacities: Treasurer (2021), President-Elect (2022), President (2023), and Immediate Past President (2024).
The Nominating Committee, chaired by President-Elect Scott Garner, will meet in July to select the slate of candidates for the OCBA election in the fall.

The Public Law Center's South East Asian Legal Outreach Program (SEALOP) provides free civil legal assistance at the BPSOS Center for Community Advancement, Inc., 13950 Milton Ave. Suite 301, Westminster, CA 92683.
Clinics take place on the second Saturday of every month from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

June 20-23 - SABA North America Annual National Conference
The South Asian Bar Association of North America ("SABA North America") will be holding its Annual National Conference at W Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are almost sold out for this year's conference, themed "Rise Up & Represent." Conference rate is available at the W Midtown until June 1.

June 21 -23 2019 Far West Regional Conference: "Strengthening Resilient Communities: Legal Tools for Accessing Personal & Collective Power"
The
National Lawyers Guild (NLG) Far West Region, which includes all NLG chapters and members in Nevada, California, Hawaii, and Alaska, will be hosting a three-day legal conference for community activists and legal professionals. The conference will include dual-track programming including: workshops, panel discussions, resources, CLE credits for legal professionals, and social events.
This event will bridge the too-often separate movements of organizing and lawyering to amplify our abilities by working together. Be inspired by an amazing array of speakers from the region in panels, participatory workshops, intimate break-out sessions, and practical trainings to combat government and systemic oppression and improve your practice.
The featured keynote speaker, Mia Yamamoto, in her own words, was "born doing time," in a Japanese internment camp in 1946. She has received numerous awards honoring her dedication to social and economic justice as a civil rights lawyer and leading criminal defender. Mia identified as trans long before she began presenting as feminine in her 50s and she co-founded Asian Pacific Islander Law Student Association at UCLA school of law in the 1970s.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: July 13-14 High School Mock Trial Championship
Volunteers are needed for a couple of hours to judge at the 1-on-1 high school mock trial world championship, July 13-14 at the Newport Beach Harbor Justice Center.
Each year, approximately one-third of the participants are students of color, and about 15% identify as Asian. But only about 10% of the volunteer judges/scorers are attorneys of color, and even fewer are Asian.
The competition includes 48 outstanding students from across the country. No preparation is required, as there is a short orientation before each trial. Food is provided, and parking is free. If you sign up with an attorney colleague or friend, they will make sure to put you in the same trial.

DEADLINE AUGUST 11 - NCVAA Law Student Scholarship
The National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys has announced the Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship in honor of Hai Vinh Luu and My Thi Dang in the amount of $5,000.
HOW TO APPLY: Vietnamese-American law students enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school for the 2019-2020 academic year are eligible for the Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship. Applicants should demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to the public interest, and service to underprivileged communities. Proof of enrollment is required. Priority consideration will be given to applicants exhibiting the greatest levels of financial need. One winner will be selected. The Luu-Ng Family Trust Scholarship and the NCVAA Law Scholarship will be presented at the 13th Annual National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys in Dallas, Texas on October 4-5, 2019. The Scholarship recipient will receive a complimentary invitation and is highly encouraged but not required to attend or participate in the Conference.
