Devotion
Anchored in Hope - Built on the Firm Foundation
This year as we lived under our theme - We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. ~Hebrews 6:19 - we experienced many unique object lessons. Excavators dug inches from classrooms and cement saws generated high pitched sounds heard throughout school. Truckloads of building materials rumbled by, perhaps distracting from lessons but not stopping them. Through it all lessons were learned. The walls stood firm. We were secure.

We were firm and secure in our building thanks to the workmanship of builders today and in 1978. The key to a building standing firm is the foundation. It is also the key for our faith. Christ is our firm foundation and He is the anchor for our souls. Life throws all sorts of distractions at our faith, but through Christ our souls will always be firm and secure. They are anchored in His hope.

Executive Director

Due to construction, the office will be open at various locations throughout the school this summer. It is best to call or email to make an appointment rather than dropping by, since there will be times when the office is unexpectedly closed.

Summer Read
The books for the Summer Read program have been announced. Students are to read the following books before the 2019-20 school year begins.
  • Freshmen (Class of 2023): Shift by Jennifer Bradbury or Guts by Gary Paulson
  • Sophomores (Class of 2022): The Book Thief by Markus Zusak or The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
  • Juniors (Class of 2021): Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Patillo Beals
  • Seniors (Class of 2020): All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr or Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger
Students will choose one book from the two choices available for their grade. One is a non-fiction and the other is fiction. You may purchase the book in any format you wish (digital, hardback, paperback, audio), just make sure it is the correct book with the correct title and author. It is recommended that if you use an audio book, that you also read along. Better comprehension that way!

Students will be required to take a comprehension test on their book when they return to school in August. That grade will be a part of their English grade for first quarter. For students who do not have an English class in the fall, the grade will be incorporated into another class.

Be prepared to either present your book or discuss it. This may happen in family groups, English classes, or in other classes. If you have any questions about the summer read, contact Dr. Lisa Meyers at [email protected].
Freshmen Placement Test Results
Freshmen placement test results will be mailed in the next two weeks. If you do not receive your results by the end of June, contact Dr. Lisa Meyers at 989-790-1676 or email [email protected].
Sports Physicals at Valley

This exam will meet the requirement of every participating athlete's obligation to have a physical exam if he or she intends to try out for one of Valley's sports teams for the 2019-20 school year. A current physical needs to be on file before a student can participate.
