Greetings!

When I first started working at the Chamber three years ago, I asked you, our members, what was your number one concern. Your answer? “Workforce.” Access to skilled and trained employees was the number one issue then and it continues to be our primary concern now.

Our Chamber is dedicated to building a bridge to find an end to end, business-led solution to the worker and skill shortage in the Southside...
Foodie Favorites in Seattle Southside

As locals in Seattle Southside, we often take for granted some of the perks of living in such a culturally diverse region. We have families, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens from all parts of the world who now call Seattle’s Backyard their home. We’re truly fortunate that this celebrated diversity is reflected throughout our communities, not to mention…our dining scene! From Japanese, to Italian, to Ethiopian and our own, uniquely Northwest cuisine, there are so many delicious options to explore.

Just down the street from Sea-Tac Airport, an unassuming building is home to two restaurants from very distant parts of the world. On one side, Star Coffee serves some of the best Ethiopian cuisine in the land. Why call an Ethiopian restaurant “Star Coffee?” Try a latte made from special Ethiopian coffee beans to find out. Sip your espresso and dip your injera bread into the veggie combination or beef tips to fully immerse yourself. Right next door sits a little taste of Southeast Asia. Chontong Thai Cuisine offers a wide variety of traditional and modern Thai dishes like pad see ewe, crispy garlic chicken, yellow curry fried rice, and mango sticky rice (when in season) for dessert.

On Southcenter Parkway, people just can’t seem to get enough of the Italian food at Grazie Ristorante . The intimate setting and exquisite, gourmet Italian food make for a perfect date night. Start with the antipasti del giorno, then try either the pollo saltimbocca or parmigiano and finish your meal off with one of the delicious desserts you passed by on the sample platter as you walked in.

Within walking distance from Grazie, Arashi Ramen brings the heat with delicious, artfully crafted bowls of ramen. This isn’t the store-bought ramen you remember from your college days…ramen bowls at Arashi are typically filled with some combination of savory pork, veggies, and spices. Start off with the honey garlic karaage (Japanese fried chicken), then enjoy a hearty bowl of black garlic ramen or spicy tan tan men.

If you like seafood, you’ll love Wally’s Chowder House . Currently rated as the #1 restaurant in Des Moines on TripAdvisor, Wally’s manages to do everything right in the seafood world. Whether it’s their chowder bread bowl, fried favorites like fish and chips, lobster tail, or the “world’s best” crab cakes, Wally’s is home to some of the finest food of the aquatic variety in the Pacific Northwest.

Finally, Sharp’s Roasthouse wraps up our list as the premiere destination in Seattle Southside for applewood roasted meats. They roast their prime rib for over 14 hours, and it shows. They’ve got pulled pork, prime-grade marbled hamburgers, smoked salmon, and to top it all off, they have perhaps the most extensive bar in the land with an endless selection of original mixed drinks, craft beer and wine.

We’ve only managed to scratch the surface of all the mouth-watering restaurants in Seattle Southside. For the complete list, head to https://www.seattlesouthside.com/eat/ . Now, get out there and eat!

Sea-Tac Airport Travel Tips to Help You Plan Ahead

It’s that time of year again, and you won’t be alone if you’re traveling through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Planning ahead with our tips and resources can help make your travel more efficient and rewarding. Here are some hints to get you to the airport, gate, and beyond.

  • Arrive early – two hours ahead of time for a domestic flight and three hours for an international flight;

  • Avoid driving if you can – use light rail, public transit, taxis, airport shuttle or ride-share vehicles and Think Opposite;

  • Limit carry-on food items for faster screening – large food items could trigger additional screening.

Keep calm and collected while you travel with these handy solutions:

  • Check out the new Sea-Tac Airport App to watch security checkpoint wait times, search for your flight, find yourself on the terminal map, and search for restaurants, lounges, the meditation room or your favorite retail store.

  • Sign up for text alerts. Get text updates about what's happening at the airport by texting "Update" to (206) 347-8045.

  • Gourmand-on-the-go! Dining options throughout Sea-Tac like Evergreens Salad, QDOBA and Beecher’s offer online and mobile ordering. Several of our fast-casual restaurants such as Camden Foods Co., McDonald’s and Pei Wei Asian Kitchen offer ordering kiosks for travelers that would like to skip the line.
