The 10 th Session of the Upper New York Annual Conference will be held
Wednesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 8 at the OnCenter in Syracuse, NY. Equalization members are lay people who are able to vote on business items at Annual Conference to have an equal balance of clergy and lay people. Equalization members must attend all sessions.
 
Youth (ages 12 to 17) and young adults (ages 18-30) are especially encouraged to apply. There is no charge for youth for registration or housing, and a reduced registration charge and partial housing reimbursement for others.

Bring your family to Skye Farm May 24-27

Enjoy experiencing camp with your family and friends at Skye Farm Camp and Retreat Center, 1884 East Schroon River Rd., Warrensburg (12885).

Services for Roberta Fishbeck to be held May 3

Please keep the family of Roberta Fishbeck in your prayers. Roberta, 91,
Roberta Fishbeck 
died on Feb. 13. She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Royal Fishbeck Jr., who served several Upper New York churches, including Troy Memorial, Slingerlands, and others.

celebrate Eagle Scouts

On Saturday, March 30, The Shushan Churches (hosted by Newman UMC) celebrated Salem BSA Troop 6061 as they presented the rank of Eagle to Cordell Smith, a scout who resides in Shushan.

Pastor Carol Finke took part in the ceremony.

One of the guests was the oldest Eagle Scout, John Meyer, receiving his honor in 1942.

John wore his Eagle pin and 3 palms, and it was a true honor to have him present on this special day.

Advanced Course: United Methodist Polity: Life Together in the
United Methodist Connection

Life Together in the United Methodist Connection.
This is a required class for becoming a Certified Lay Speaker, but everyone is encouraged to take this class. It will help you to understand some of the questions about the governance of the UMC. This course will help church leaders answer questions, help newcomers to the UMC to get their bearings, and help longtime members consider the specific structural challenges the church faces in the 21st Century.
Why does the United Methodist Church do things the way it does? What are the rules - and why are they the rules? The purchase of the 2016 Book of Discipline is highly recommended for this course, and is available through Cokesbury:  Click here

This course is the foundation for all Lay Servant courses. In this class, you will be encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended. Participants are invited to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a leader and in mission and ministry in the community and in daily life.
 
Cost: $15 includes the book. Please bring a bag lunch.

Safe Sanctuaries Trainings
The standard Safe Sanctuaries training
will be held from 9 AM to Noon on
Saturday, June 1 at the South Glens Falls UMC, 15 Maplewood Parkway, South Glens Falls (12803). Please arrive by 8:45 AM to register.  
 
The training will follow the curriculum developed by the Upper New York Annual Conference Safe Sanctuaries Team, educating those involved in ministries who work with children and vulnerable adults on risks and prevention strategies related to abuse. The training will be facilitated by Arlene Schmidt and Ruth Persons.
 
A "Training of Trainers" course will also be offered that afternoon (from 1 PM to 4 PM) for those interested in facilitating Upper NY's Safe Sanctuaries Training as part of the District's training team and/or for their local church. Completion of the standard course is a prerequisite. The course can be completed that morning (or if you've completed it at a previous time). Participants must be affirmed by District Superintendent Rev. Debbie Earthrowl. Carol Barnes, the Conference Safe Sanctuaries Coordinator, will facilitate the training. 
 
Lunch will be provided at 12:15 PM for those who enroll in the Training of Trainers course.

Church seeks items for yard sale

The North River United Methodist Church (194 13th Lake Road) is looking for donations for a spring yard sale to be held on May 4th. The church is looking for new and gently used items for this fundraiser.  Please do not donate items that the church may have to pay to get rid of. No electronics unless they are fairly new and complete, and please no clothing. The items may be dropped off at the church on April 27, or to schedule a drop off time please contact Sandra Cashman (518) 251-2883.
Moriah UMC seeks cell phones

The Moriah UMC is collecting old cell phones. If anyone or any church is willing to collect for them, it would be deeply appreciated. The pastor would be glad to drive to the church and pick up the box of cell phones that have been gathered. Proceeds will go to a building fund for the church to help with many major repairs. Maundy Thursday Dinner will be at 6 PM Thursday, April 18. Please bring a dish to pass and your own table service. but it is God who sees what lies deep within. We have each struggled with that question once or twice in our lives, and what we have discovered we would like to share with you.
Join us for a day set apart to uncover some of the ways in which you are God's chosen daughters - finding your sense of self through God's Word. Pastors Deb Peacock, Kim Krause and Karyl Hopp invite you to join them for a day of discovery. We will begin gathering at 8 AM for registration. A light breakfast and a delicious lunch, snacks, dessert and beverages and materials - everything you need for this time - will be provided for you. The program will begin at 9 AM and conclude at 3 PM. The cost for the day is $20, payable to PAUMC, and one feminine hygiene product to be donated to Hope 7 Food Pantry. Free Hospitality Dinner for incoming International Students, 5 PM Wednesday, May 22, Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Lake George. Dinner will be spaghetti and trimmings.
