DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED
As we have been prayerfully asking for understanding and direction during these many months of Covid, we often feeling locked-out, shut-down and separated, asking--What does it mean to be the church in this unusual and fearful time? History is clear. Uncertainty has been the context of the witness and work of the church from its beginning. Example: In the early 1500s there were several plagues in Wittenberg, Germany and elsewhere. Martin Luther sent letters to church and civic leaders. He insisted that preachers and pastors should continue their work as good shepherds. He also gave personal cautionary advice: I will fumigate to purify the air, give and take medicine and avoid places and persons where I am not needed in order that I may not abuse myself and that through me others may not be infected and inflamed with the result that I become the cause of their death through my negligence.

When the disciples were experiencing a deep sense of uncertainty, they hear Jesus’ words, Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God…. Jesus invites them to trust and follow him even in the uncertainty of the moment. In this same spirit, as we gather to worship in these uncertain times, we pray, Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven…. Point: Earth and heaven are connected in the NOW. We are called to live in God’s kingdom: forgiving, bearing witness, giving bread to the hungry, sight to the blind, freeing the prisoner, healing and sharing hope, living courageously, standing firmly for truth, peace and justice, and living humbly in the abiding presence of God.

Uncertainty does not have final claim on us. God does! Consequentially; our witness and work continue in these uncertain times!

Forgiving others and humbly asking for forgiveness are central disciplines for all Christian believers. Lent, a time to reflect on our Christian journey, is an appropriate time to deepen our understanding and practice of forgiveness. Using biblical examples and real-life situations, Thompson illustrates each chapter's theme in an informative and engaging way. With clarity, insight, and sensitivity, this book is the perfect resource for examining both our ability to forgive and our own need for forgiveness.

Deadline for registration: now

You don’t know God until you talk to God. Prayer is a crucial way for us to experience God’s grace. Jesus used The Lord's Prayer to teach all disciples about how to communicate with God. Christians also order their lives around their relationships with each other, and these relationships are strengthened through personal and corporate prayer with God. The Lord's Prayer is a template for how to bring our needs, concerns, and challenges to God, who cares for each of us.

September 21 - November 9 (8 weeks), Mondays, 9:30 - 11:30 am
Deadline for registration: September 9
Maximum number for class is 11

We live in a world where there is a lot of confusion about Jesus. Disillusion and doubt give us a distorted picture of who Jesus really is. Too often people want to shape Jesus and His message to fit their personal needs or agendas. How can we know the truth? Join Angie Smith as she uses her signature wit and insight to tell the beautiful story of our matchless Savior. As you dive into Jesus' message, miracles, and mission, you'll be challenged and invited to see Him in a new light whether you've walked with Him for many years or are meeting Him for the first time.

SEPTEMBER SPECIAL OFFERING: Sacramento Methodist Assembly
As summer winds up this year, let's pause and remember the church camp experiences of our lives, wherever they may be.
You may remember youth camps, women's or men's conferences, marriage retreats, lay speaker schools and many more events Some people made their first commitment to Christ in a camp setting. Most remember growing closer to God.
Sadly, this year most events at Sacramento and other camps were canceled by Covid resulting in not only lots of disappointment, but also serious financial hardship. We at St. John's have the opportunity this month to support our beautiful camp in the Sacramento mountains south of Cloudcroft and ensure future opportunities with other Christians to pray, worship, play and study in God's beautiful creation. Please give generously.
