April 2019

Often we are too busy to make the changes we need to make. It's easier to keep on working -planning, creating and meeting deadlines. We don't give ourselves time to focus intently on things that could make work life more productive and enjoyable.

I'm thrilled to report that we recently took the time to "see past" our day-to-day operations and make a change. We analyzed our staffing needs and sought out two employees who could add another layer of expertise to our staff. Rather than quickly fill a vacant position with the "best available candidate," we spent the time necessary to find the right fit. And the result: Abby Lenon, art consultant, and Shelita Maldanodo, office coordinator.  We also recently dedicated company time and resources to become a certified EDAC Advocate Firm, a designation that reinforces our understanding and commitment to evidence-based design.

While time is the magical element we can never get enough of, it is also what makes an unmistakable difference in the quality of what we do. Time spent with future employees to make sure they share our vision and values, with clients to listen and understand their goals, or with artists to ensure they understand what a commission is all about, is the best insurance that our work will exceed expectations.

When we invest the time it takes to make a change, whether it be adding team members, buying a new phone or rethinking a process, the end result can be both internal and external cost and time savings. So, in the spirit of inspiring positive change, I invite you to creatively think past your routine to your goal and take some time to reach for it!

Sincerely,

Gull Marsh, Original Photography, @altitudegallery.com

From vivid seascapes to lush marshes and rugged farmlands, the scenic melting pot making up Virginia's Eastern Shore is as diverse as its inhabitants. It was this picturesque combination that inspired the art program at Shore Memorial Hospital, visually depicting the distinct areas and lifestyles that comprise the Eastern Shore community.

In collaboration with local artists, DAS helped to artfully interpret the rich textures of the Eastern Shore though mixed media and the expansive beauty of aerial photography. The art program is inspired by the quiet colors, subtle tones and the natural peacefulness local residents have enjoyed for generations. The new donor wall designed for Riverside Shore Memorial is now the adaptable standard throughout the Riverside Health System, customizable to reflect each physical location and the counties they serve.
