Devastated by the news of the fire that so deeply damaged Notre Dame Cathedral, I wondered how we, as fellow cathedral, could respond. Tuesday morning before leaving the house, I texted to ask whether cathedral volunteer Jayne Eisen might have time to make a large card we could sign and send to the dean and people of Notre Dame. By the time the clergy of the diocese were arriving for the Holy Tuesday service, Jayne had created a beautiful poster and a plan through which the signatures and notes would end up forming the French flag. As you can see from the photo, it is a beautiful expression of care and hope. It is a Holy Saturday card.
We live in a world where roofs burn. Spires collapse. Harm is done. The promise of the Resurrection is not that these wounds and losses will go away, but that God is present to it, experiences these wounds and losses, and will not let them be the end. There is more: There is a holy mending and more coming than we can ask or imagine. But on the way to that Resurrection, there is Holy Saturday. All who have experienced trauma, displacement, or shipwreck know this place.
I cling to the mystery and truth of the Resurrection and am so thankful for the yearly Holy Week journey through the story that leads to it. I invite you to take in the whole journey – including our Holy Saturday service at 9 am on Saturday – and to prepare for God’s holy next, for Notre Dame, for you, and for our world.
Christ's peace to you,
Amy

THE RAIN
I think the rain means God is letting me know I screwed up yesterday. It’s also trying to send me home to Framingham.
Would probably not be here without the rain – I love to be outside. It can be nice to sleep on rainy days. It is getting cold awfully fast after a Hot Summer. Hoping for an easy winter.
Recently got a room in Framingham, trying not to lose it. I still miss Boston, Framingham can be boring to me. My mom lives in Framingham, too, which can be a blessing and a curse.
But I was there a lot recently and really needed a day off, so it was nice to be out last night.
