Carleton Washburne
Monday Memo
February 15, 2021

Washburne Families,

February has certainly brought the cold with it. Please remind your son/daughter to bundle up this week. We will be letting students line-up inside before school, but even a few minutes outside in this weather can be dangerous.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for parent-teacher conferences last week. We value the chance to celebrate academic successes, troubleshoot to better support or challenge students and plan ahead for the future.

I wanted to highlight a service project that many of our advisories have been working on the past couple of weeks. Our Washburne students completed a valentines project to provide cheer to different groups in our community. Students researched different places to send valentines and voted as a group for one organization per advisory pod. Misercordia, former D36 teachers, nursing home residents, hospital workers, Winnetka fire and police departments, and essential workers at The Grand were just some of the choices and destinations. It was an awesome opportunity to "spread the love" and we couldn't be more proud of our students for their enthusiasm and service mindset.

We have been working on our schedule and logistics for an Extended Day at Washburne to begin in March.  We will send out a dedicated communication on this topic later in the week after we have a chance to review with the School Board at tonight's meeting.

Take care and be well,

Dr. Andrew Fenton                 Ben Horwitz
