BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
Breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in Texas women.
In the U.S.,
1 in 8 women
will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during her lifetime.
It is estimated that in 2021, 281,550 women and 2,650 men would be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the U.S.
In 2021, It is expected that 43,600 women and 530 male would die in the U.S. due to breast cancer
In Texas in 2021, an estimated 20,900 new cases of female breast cancer are expected with 3,420 deaths.
Men also get breast cancer,
but it is not very common. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man.
Mammograms
are the best way to find breast cancer early,
when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.
Ask your doctor when you should get a mammogram.
Learn How you can Lower your Risk
You can do things to help
lower your breast cancer risk
:
Keep a healthy weight and exercise regularly.
Don’t drink alcohol, or limit the amount of alcohol you drink.
If you are taking hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills, ask your doctor about the risks.
Breastfeed your children, if possible.
