Names Danyelle Means
Interim Director of Institutional Advancement

SANTA FE: April 17, 2019
IAIA President Dr. Robert Martin (Cherokee) has announced the appointment of
Danyelle Means (Oglala Lakota) as the school's
Interim Director of Institutional Advancement --
additionally, she was also named Interim Executive Director of the IAIA Foundation. In these roles, she will help work to further public understanding and recognition of IAIA and its important mission to empower creativity and leadership in Native Arts and cultures through higher education, life-long learning, and outreach. Danyelle started at IAIA on March 25, 2019.
Danyelle is an enrolled tribal member of the Oglala Lakota Nation of South Dakota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and French from the University of South Dakota and will complete a Master of Arts in Museum Studies this summer from Marist College/Instituto Lorenzo de' M Medici, Florence, Italy. Danyelle's professional experience includes working with the National Museum of American Indian (NMAI), Peabody Essex Museum, Marist College, and the Kupferberg Holocaust Center, Queensborough Community College CUNY, NY.

had this to say about Danyelle's appointment: "Danyelle is ideally suited for this interim position. She has excellent interpersonal and fundraising skills, and works well with foundations, corporations and major donors. Danyelle successfully raised the funds to underwrite a number of exhibits as a Project Manager while at the NMAI."
President Martin commented on Means' hiring: "I look forward to working with Danyelle who has the expertise and commitment required to continue building IAIA's fundraising capacity to increase funding for student scholarships and support the college's planned growth in programs".
The Director of Institutional Advancement's position will be advertised nationally in the near future.
