"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"

BRAVO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS!
Their performance of  Mary Poppins, Jr. was marvelous! On Friday evening, the CES community got to hear classics like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Let's Go Fly a Kite." Between Bert (played by Wells T.) touting that a chimney sweep's view is the best around, Mary Poppins (played by Caitlyn L.) telling us that sometimes all it takes is a spoonful of sugar, and George Banks (played by Logan K.) finding out that money isn't everything, we were reminded that life is about the simple things like time with family and friends. Thank you Mrs. Dunn, our middle school music teacher/musical director for all your hard work!

A Message from the Head of School:

Dear CES Families,

What a gorgeous day! I hope you have been enjoying the nice spring weather. This time of year makes me think of the hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful." Though not official, we like to consider it our "school song."

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things bright and beautiful, the Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors, he made their tiny wings.

It is fun to see all of God's "glowing colors," emerging after the winter. The bright green of the leaves during this time of year is one of my favorite colors. Of course it also means that the hostas are coming up in my yard. They seem to be our local deer's favorite main dish. So, those lovely, dream-like and annoying beasts are back again! They are not one of my favorites of God's "bright and beautiful creatures."

The middle school had a successful showing of Mary Poppins, Jr. last week. I am always impressed by the talents that suddenly emerge during our annual musicals. Second grade is once again hatching chicks in their classroom Rent-A-Coop, and many of the spring field trips are gearing up. All of these events are a signal of spring time and also the rapidly approaching end to the year.

This week is Holy Week in the Episcopal Church. Please remember that tomorrow, Thursday, April 18 is a professional work day with no school for students. Teachers are spending the day with many of you in parent-teacher conferences. In honor of our most holy days in the Christian church, we are also closed for Good Friday, April 19, and Easter Monday, April 22. For those of you who are entering into this holy time as a part of your family's faith traditions, I hope you feel God's light and peace, as well as, His hope for us during this sacred time.

With love and gratitude,

Caroline Chapin, Ed. D.

HAPPY EASTER FROM CES!

Extended Day has a blast yesterday on their Egg Scavenger Hunt!
Kindergartner Nolan Y. (pictured above, right) was happy to report that he found an egg of every color, but the best part was eating the jelly beans afterward!

VISITING AUTHOR ORDER FORM
"Tadcaster and the Bullies"
by Richard Rutherford, illustrated by Jennifer Rutherford

Local author Richard Rutherford and his wife Jennifer (illustrator) will visit the lower school on Tuesday, May 7th as part of CES' Young Author and Fine Arts Festival. Students will hear first-hand how the Rutherfords were inspired to write and illustrate their first book. The book is filled with surprises as two siblings befriend a small dog who helps them navigate some neighborhood bullies. The siblings quickly learn that this is no ordinary dog.

Students may purchase a copy of the book ahead of time for $10.00 a copy. Checks may be made out to Christ Episcopal School. Order forms are due no later than April 30th. The books will be delivered on May 7th and may be personalized by the author.

Celebrating Earth Day

In chapel last week, we celebrated Earth Day (which is on April 22) a little early. Students shared nature poems and learned about Sequoia trees. During chapel, the whole school formed a circle about 95 feet in circumference, the same as that of a giant Sequoia tree. Thanks to Mrs. Medema and her 4th grade class for organizing such an interactive celebration of God's creation!

"Chick" It Out!

Last week, the chicks from Rent-A-Coop arrived in 2nd Grade! One of the Gala prizes is to be the first to take them home for a weekend. At the Gala back in February, the Rose Family won, and got to take Salt and Pepa home this past weekend. Brennan ('16) and Zachary ('19) really had fun with them (and, no incidents with their 2 cats!)

A few weeks ago, Jacqueline M. (19) performed in Imagination Stage Performance Ensemble's presentation of  The Secret In The Wings. She and the rest of the cast rehearsed for most of the winter.

In March, all their hard work came to fruition. They had brilliant performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings to a packed and enthusiastic theater crowd!

Here she is pictured on stage (center) with her co-stars.  Way to go Jacqueline!
