ECONOMIC RECOVERY IN OCEANSIDE
People and economies around the world have been through the wringer with this microscopic virus. COVID-19 has posed a daunting question: How can we save both lives and livelihoods? While each day, differing opinions grow, the City of Oceanside has been required to move at the pace allowed by the County.
These have been difficult times, and we’re all travelling through this experience together. And together, we will recover from it. I have no doubt that Oceanside will come roaring back as we regain jobs and support the businesses we value. We are targeting an accelerated recovery of our local economy. The City has been working on recovery strategies since the pandemic began, and will work to implement those immediately. Ultimately, we have the capacity for a great deal of prosperity that can come after the economic upheaval this pandemic has caused.
This global health crisis could give rise to a new era of bio-medical businesses in our region. Oceanside is already home to a Gilead Sciences facility, makers of one of the earliest-studied COVID treatments, Remdesivir. The Life Sciences, Pharma, and MedTech industries in Oceanside are leading the way. Oceanside businesses can restructure and innovate, attract investment, increase productivity, and usher in a new era of prosperity.
After all we’ve been through, let’s ensure that we don’t go backwards on the progress we have made as our community reopens. Continuing strong everyday prevention measures will be key. Keep physically distance from people not in your household. Wash your hands often and cover your sneezes and coughs with a tissue or your elbow. Wear face coverings when required.
It takes
all
of us to keep our community safe. I thank you for everything you are doing.
Thank you,
Peter Weiss
