When you think of weddings do you think of saying “I do” by a 114-year-old tug boat? Having a cocktail hour in a museum gallery? Do you think of your wedding party taking photos in a replica of an early 20th-century garment loft? Well, at the BMI that’s exactly what we think of!
A wedding is a labor of love, it is a huge investment of money and time, and here at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, we understand that and we want to make your big day, and the journey leading up to that day, as seamless as possible. In 2019, 70 couples chose our historic venue for their special day and in 2020 we hope to see even more couples choose the BMI as a place to make their own history.
On January 12, the BMI invites couples to experience the space and connect with dozens of local industry professionals at our annual Wedding Open House. We'll have everything to help plan the perfect event: caterers offering delicious free samples, DJs, florists, photographers, and more. Explore our breathtaking waterfront setting and meet our event staff. And please know that revenue generated from event rentals helps to support the museum's education programs, collections, and exhibits.
The BMI captures the charm of Charm City and has something for everyone--just check out our reviews onwedding wire!
Have kids interested in building robots, cars, and hovercrafts? The BMI hosts the Maryland Engineering Challenges to introduce students in grades 1 to 12 to the role of engineers in today’s society and connect what students learn in school with real-world engineering concepts. The 2020 challenges start in January. Learn more here.
Legacy Project Update
As the BMI continues to work on the Bethlehem Steel Legacy Project, join us on the journey as we explore artifacts, share stories, and highlight new developments of the project.
From Point to Point is a collaboration between BMI staff, volunteers, and community members who want to share the Bethlehem Steel’s legacy with a broader audience. Check out the most recent blog post, here.

Have you visited our temporary exhibit, Shuttered: Images From the Fall of Bethlehem Steel? If not, you’ve still got time--the exhibit will be up until April of this year! The exhibit features powerful photographs that explore the closure of the Bethlehem Steel mill at Sparrows Point, and the impact it had on the workers and the surrounding communities it supported.
Want to meet the man behind the lens? The BMI has three programs coming up where you can meet J.M. Giordano, the award-winning photojournalist who has dedicated more than 15 years to capturing the relationship between industry and community in Baltimore through his photography.
On Thursday, January 16 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, J.M. Giordano will be at Motor House, to discuss Shuttered: Images from the Fall of Bethlehem Steel. The program is funded in part by a grant from Maryland Humanities.
Later in the month, he’ll be at the historic Lexington Market. On Friday, January 31 Giordano will host an Artist Talk at as he goes in-depth about his photography of the Steel Industry. On Saturday, February 1 he’ll review photography basics and lead a hands-on workshop throughout the historic public market. Bring your own equipment, all levels are welcome!
