Building Safe and Inclusive Communities: A Discussion on Implicit Bias

Dear Third District resident and business owners,

Last week I sent you an  email regarding several listening sessions the City of Long Beach will be hosting to address issues of racism and social justice. I encourage you to participate in those sessions if you are able.

In that email I also announced a series of district-specific discussions and training on the topics of bias and racism that I will be hosting. I welcome you to join me in these discussions as this should be an inclusive process where everyone can respectfully engage in the discussion, regardless of our current beliefs or past experiences. I do not want us to refrain from participating in these discussions because we are afraid of saying the wrong thing or being misunderstood. The important thing is that we are all part of the conversation.

This first of the series is a primer on implicit bias. I think it's a great place for us to start the conversation and I urge you to please watch and share your thoughts with me. Next I will host a more interactive discussion on these topics on July 1st at 5:30 (more info on that to come).

Please note that no public monies were used to pay for the presenter, or to produce the zoom video. All costs were covered though my personal and private contributions.

Thank you for being a part of the conversation.

Sincerely,
Suzie Price
