We're Open!

We have our provincial government required COVID-19 operational plan in place which includes enhanced cleaning and sanitizing policies and procedures in order to better protect both our customers and our staff from potential exposure to COVID-19.

After 108 days of offering Curbside Pick-Up service only, we held an unannounced soft opening for our Brackley Beach location on Saturday, July 4th, to see how our new COVID-19 operational plan would actually work with the public inside our soap shop.  We have now been open to the public for 5 full days and we feel we have been adapting well.  Out of an abundance of caution, we have taken our time reopening to the public during the last several months to ensure that our family, staff, and customers were as safe as possible on our property.  We would like to sincerely thank you for your support during that time and your patience with us.  While our COVID-19 policies and procedures are still an ongoing work in progress as we continue to learn from experience, we are pleased to inform you today that you are once again welcome to visit our soap shop in Brackley Beach, Prince Edward Island.  It sure has been lonely without you here and we do hope you decide to visit us again if you have an opportunity to do so.

Finally, please be kind and understanding to us.  July 4th was the very first day our soap shop had been open for the public to come inside in 108 days since March 18th.  It may take a few more days for us to figure out the nuances of our customer service policies in relation to COVID-19.  We realize that each individual has their own personal requirements in order to feel safe.  If you have any suggestions or concerns, please let us know and we will do our very best to address them and work with you so that you feel comfortable visiting our store and purchasing our products.  We are all in this together.

Thank you,

The Great Canadian Soap Co.

3 IMPORTANT POLICIES - SAVE TIME AT OUR STORE BY READING NOW
We go over the following three COVID-19 policies (labeled below as Policy #1, Policy #2, Policy #3) with EVERY customer who enters our store before they are permitted to browse or shop.  However, to save us both a lot of time after you first enter our soap shop, please read the following three policies listed below and then when we ask you, "Have you ever been to our store before?", all you just need to say in response to us is something along the lines of, "Yes and I've read your email" or "Yes and I know the polices".  By saying this to us, we will know that not only have you been to our store before but that you have taken the time to read our three polices listed below and so we won't have to go over them again with you.

Policy #1

SANITIZE YOUR HANDS
Everyone is expected to sanitize their hands with either their own hand sanitizer or ours (65% ethyl alcohol) immediately upon entering through the front door of our soap shop.  Exceptions for infants, small children (provided they will not be touching products), or people with disabilities will be permitted.  On request, soap and water is available in our kitchen as well.

To reduce handling of products, we encourage you to use the small plastic shopping baskets located beside the hand sanitizing station.  These baskets are wiped down with a bleach solution in-between uses as well as being completely submerged in a bleach solution daily.

Policy #2

SMELLING OUR PRODUCTS
We understand how important scents are to you and our business.  If you want to know what one of our products smells like, please ONLY smell products that are clearly labeled "Smell Sample".  If you are not sure, please ask one of our staff.  Products labeled "Smell Sample" are only for smelling and are not for trying out or using in any way.  If you would like to try a sample of a product, please ask one of our staff.

Policy #3

TOUCHING OUR PRODUCTS
We ask that you please try your best to ONLY touch products that you intend to buy.  If you make a mistake, change your mind, or find something better while browsing, it's ok.  All you need to do is set any product you touch, that you no longer want, into one of several blue quarantine bins located throughout our soap shop.  The entire bin, including all of the products in it, will then be quarantined for at least three days.  Afterwards, the products will be restocked and the bin sanitized with a bleach solution.

Other Policies

MAXIMUM 8 PEOPLE,
MAXIMUM 4 GROUPS
If you have ever been inside our soap shop in Brackley Beach before, especially during the summer months, you know just how busy it can be as well as how limited our floor space is.  As a result of COVID-19, we are now limiting the number of people in the soap shop to a maximum of 8.  In addition, we are limiting the number of groups (people travelling together) to a maximum of 4.  This means the actual maximum number of people in our soap shop at any one time, in addition to our staff, will be between 4 and 8 depending on the size of the groups.  If we are at maximum capacity, we will put a note on our front door to let you know we are full.  If you see more than 2 vehicles parked in front of the soap shop but no note on the front door, it would be a good idea to just open the door a bit and check with our staff to see if there is room for you or your group before entering the store.

BACK ROOMS
In addition, our two back showrooms, which are smaller than our main showroom area, have signs clearly posted that allow a maximum of one group at a time in them.  We require that when there is more than one group present in the soap shop, each group will need to stay in the same room as each other and shop together in one room at a time.  Finally, we have arrows on the floor clearly indicating the direction you will need to travel so that you can visit every part of the store while still maintaining a 2 metre (6 feet) distance from other people.  There may be times where our staff may have to ask you to move to a certain area in order to allow someone to exit or enter the store, or to make their purchase.

MASKS, CASH, and GOATS
At this time, masks are not mandatory in our soap shop or on our property.  However, we would like to suggest that you wear one if possible.  We are following the requirements of our provincial health department closely regarding mask use as it may eventually become a requirement for our customers and/or staff.  Our main cash counter is surrounded on three sides (soon to be all 4 sides) with plexiglass to protect our staff and our customers.  We are accepting cash at this time but this is subject to change without notice so please try and bring a card as an alternative.  The vast majority of our goats are in pasture at this time and are not accessible to the public.  We are working towards making accessible to the public the few remaining goats and sheep currently located beside the soap shop sometime in the near future.

NO CONTACT SHOPPING
If you would like to purchase our products with no contact, you can place your order online or by phone with us.  After we contact you to let you know your order is ready, you can then pull your vehicle up to the soap shop during business hours and honk your horn while remaining in your vehicle.  D on't worry about honking, we won't think it is rude and since we can't always answer the phone, honking is actually a more reliable way to communicate that you are here for a pickup.  If you see other cars are here, we are probably with other customers and so it may take us a minute or two to get outside to see you.  We will set your order on a table outside and you can then exit your vehicle to pick it up.  We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express Cards, either online or by phone or outside at our store (we have a portable machine we can bring out to you), as well as Debit Cards outside our store.  We can also accept payments by email transfer or PayPal.  We regret we are not accepting cash for payments made outside at this time.  Social distancing of 2 meters or more is important and is mandatory on our property at all times.

APPOINTMENT SHOPPING
If you are very concerned about shopping with other people present in our store due to being at an increased health risk due to COVID-19, please phone or email us and we will work with you to arrange a time you can come in and shop privately either shortly before the store opens or after it closes.

PERMANENTLY CLOSED
CAVENDISH LOCATION
The Great Canadian Soap Co. first opened its second location on the main corner in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, back in late June 2015.  It was a fun little seasonal shop and we thoroughly enjoyed serving customers there for 5 summers.  We made a difficult and sad decision this past spring to permanently close this location as of the 2020 season.  We would like to sincerely thank all of our regular customers there and hope that you will visit our remaining year round location in Brackley Beach, Prince Edward Island, only 20.5 kilometres down the same road (Route 6), where we have been selling soap since 2001.
