Private Parties at the Club

Members may schedule the clubhouse for private parties, whether a small private meal in the Yardley Room on the first floor or in the full clubhouse, which can accommodate up to 40 for meals. The Club’s second floor dining room can comfortably seat between 12 and 24 guests.

Please contact Club Manager Jules Cantonwine at least two weeks in advance about available dates and details of these fee-based rentals—which are offered to members at a substantial discount—and then plan your menu with Chef Charlotte.

Club Programs and Activities

Dinners and some lunches include more formal talks by invited speakers, sometimes preceded by behind-the-scenes cultural and curatorial tours in the Mt. Vernon district. Talks range widely, encompassing the history of Baltimore; current events; new books; presentations on the arts and Baltimore’s many cultural institutions; higher education; and scientific or academic subjects—all geared toward a non-specialist, but informed, Club member.

These presentations are generally on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings or at lunch on the third Saturday of each month, and are announced in advance in the Club newsletter. At a Wednesday evening dinner, a cocktail hour at 6:00 is followed by dinner at 7:00 and a 45-minute talk with Q&A at 8:00. On Saturdays, the schedule is drinks at 12:30, lunch at 1:00, talk and discussion generally over dessert and coffee at around 1:30, and concluding at 2:00 or so.

Members are encouraged to suggest speakers or themes for the “formal programs,” including members themselves for our “Members Speak” series. While speakers for our “formal programs” is usual scheduled several months in advance, “announced guest speakers” are welcome at any time at lunch.  Just ask Jules, our general manager, to send out email announcement.

At the moment we have openings for speakers for our “formal programs” beginning in July.  Please email Ed Stringer if you have someone you would like to suggest at [email protected]

Please speak to our General Manager, Jules, about any “announced lunch guest speaker you would like to bring to one of regular Tues.-Friday club lunches.  We need her to okay the date, as well as to send out the announcement.
