The Baltimore Museum of Industry is pleased to offer digital experiences for camp groups, homeschools, families, scouts, seniors, and adult audiences. Digital experiences include a guided virtual tour of the museum hosted over Zoom and hands-on activities printable at home for younger audiences.
While the museum is closed temporarily to support Maryland’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 you can still see the museum spaces with our virtual tour!
While the museum remains closed to visitors, the archives team continues to collect, preserve, and share the history of local industry, chronicling the achievements of innovators from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. And starting this month, the team is again accepting on-site research appointments for those wishing to take a deeper dive into the museum collections. The museum has put safety and cleaning protocols in place, and researchers will be expected to follow appropriate social distancing guidelines.
The research center offers textual documentation, photographs, audiovisual materials, trade literature, architectural drawings, and more. The 5,000-volume non-lending library comprises technical manuals, directories, journals, and periodicals, including back issues of Port of Baltimore and Baltimore magazines. The library also holds the contents of the former research libraries for several major corporations and local institutions, including BGE, American Rolling Mill Company (ARMCO), Rustless Iron and Steel Corporation, and the Mount Vernon Museum of Incandescent Lighting.
The onsite research center services are available by appointment only. For details on schedule and fees click here.

Bmore Historic Unconference Goes VIRTUAL
Bmore Historic has announced the annual unconference will be held virtually on September 18, 2020 and registration will be free.
This participant-led “un-conference” has been held at the BMI for the past several years and is designed for anyone interested in public history, museums, cultural heritage, and historic preservation in Baltimore and Maryland. Attendees submit proposals, set the agenda for what’s discussed, and lead sessions on the topics picked. This wildly successful and engaging event has included a wide range of topics including The Baltimore Uprising: Five Years Later, Graduate Education for the Cultural Worker in the 21st Century, Using your History Degree for History-Adjacent Careers, and Steel, Sparrows Point, and De-industrialization in Baltimore.
For the past several summers, the BMI campus has hosted waterfront yoga classes. This summer, due to COVID-19, the yoga classes have gone virtual in order to keep people safe.
Led by Instructor E. Brady Robinson, Vinyasa Flow Yoga encourages participants to slow down and practice an hour of self-care through coordinated breathing, stretching, and moving.
Maura Roth-Gormley, the instructor for Industry-Inspired yoga ties her practice into industry by sharing exercises designed to alleviate stress from work--whether that's working on your feet, or at a computer.
Both classes are open to all levels of experience and allow participants to see what works for them. And best of all, they’re free!
