The Latest CAPT News
Penny Wars ended on October 29th! The support and participation was amazing! We raised over $11,000 and carried over 1,557 pounds of coins to the bank!

This fundraiser did so well that we are giving out more prizes! Now, 1st-10th place will win something for their class AND the whole school will be getting recess toys to share. We've reached out to teachers this week for suggestions and will discuss what to buy at Tuesday's CAPT meeting. (You are invited to join us and participate in this discussion!)

Congratulations to:

  • 1st place: Ms. Mahan's class for Extra Recess, PJ Day, and a Special Recess Fun Basket + $50 to their classroom
  • 2nd place: Ms. Hickey's class for Extra Recess + $50 to their classroom
  • 3rd place: Ms. Martino's class for PJ Day + $50 to their classroom

4th-10th place won $25 for their classroom! Congratulations to:

Our Penny Wars Volunteers and Helpers
A HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers and helpers who made Penny Wars happen. It was truly a team effort and any role - no matter how big or small - really mattered!

  • Thank you to Ms. Mooney and her 5th grade class! They weighed all of the bins and counted the dollars. They did a lot of heavy lifting!
  • Thank you to Kristen Orzechowski for helping our CAPT Board members, Kristen Ecord, Tiffany Giglio, and Janise Foley, with lugging the coins to the bank!
  • Thank you to Jeff Bacon for the amazing detailed spreadsheet with so many formulas and all the math to calculate the rankings. They were invaluable to Jess Bacon for the scoreboards on Facebook and in the hallway!
  • Thank you to the teachers for taking the bins out every day and reminding students to bring in their coins.
  • Thank you to Room Parents who sent out emails to Hansen Families.
  • Thank you to Barbie Cavanagh, our fabulous school admin assistant who printed over 450 flyers for our students.
  • And thank you to Mr. Brauninger for allowing us to run Penny Wars and for talking about it in his morning announcements and the weekly newsletter!

It takes a village to support kids and we have a great one here at Hansen! If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please consider signing up to be a CAPT volunteer via our online form! We need all kinds of help, from volunteering to do a small simple project to running big programs to becoming a board member. Check out our website for more info.
Fall Mini Book Fair
Our Fall Scholastic Mini Book Fair is coming up! We'll be in the lobby during Parent/Teacher Conferences on November 17th and 18th.

Got an hour to help us? We are looking for help with setup, working the register (super easy to learn!), and packing up the fair. Morning/afternoon/evening time slots are available here:
Holiday Shop is Returning to Hansen!
We are so excited to announce that we're bringing the Holiday Shop back to Hansen this year! It will be on December 2nd. All students will have the opportunity to shop for family and friends during school hours. All items will be $5 or less. Stay tuned for the envelope going home with a budgeting chart.

To help with this program, we are looking for winter decorations to help make the room festive! We will take donations or we can borrow and return. We will also be collecting food donations for our teachers to thank them for letting us interrupt their day.

Lastly, we will need lots of help! A SignUpGenius will be coming out, but we're looking for help with setup the night before, running the program the day of (helping kids shop, check out, and/or gift wrapping), and clean up. So, mark your calendar: Dec 2nd is going to be a fun day!
