A PROMISED LAND
A Promised Land by Barack Obama is a riveting, deeply personal account of history in the making—from the President who inspired us to believe in the power of democracy.

In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency—a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

REEL REVIEW: SOCIAL DILEMMA (on Netflix)
This documentary looks at the myriad ways our minds are twisted by social media platforms and their impact on many of our current societal struggles. The film focuses on powerful interviews of former top executives from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other sites who left their companies due to their profound ethical conflicts.

The film delves into how and why these sites are so addictive, their profitability, and the dangers they present to our privacy and our ability to engage in the real world appropriately.

Rotten Tomatoes critics rate it 87%, audiences give it 83%. All reviewers credit it with giving viewers eye-opening insights and lots of new tech language phrases.

LIVING ALONE DURING THE PANDEMIC:
WHAT MAKES US HAPPY?
Too often we struggle to figure out how to be happy. Often we focus on the wrong things, believing that if we only had a partner, or a companion, or a better something-or-other, we’d be happy. We will discuss the 10 Keys to Happier Living presented in the TED Talk with an emphasis on what you might want to do differently to increase your own happiness. Join host Stefany Burrowes to explore these issues together and inspire each other to create more happiness in our lives.

CHAPTER NEWS
STEERING COMMITTEE TRANSITIONS
We are excited to welcome Carrie Marsh to the Steering Committee as the new Virtual Events Coordinator!

Carrie has called the City Different home since early 2020.

Carrie has spent her twenty year career leading non-profits in her native Colorado, New Mexico and New York City. She began her consulting firm, for good, nine years ago, specializing in capital fundraising campaigns, organizational leadership and community development. Passionate about empowering people and strengthening our communities, Carrie is thrilled to call Santa Fe home.

Most days you can find her strolling on Canyon Road or hiking Picacho with her scruffy dog, Winston.
HELP WANTED VOLUNTEER QUESTIONNAIRE!
Would you like to become more involved in the Santa Fe chapter of TTN by serving or helping? Are you looking to feel more of a connection with other women in the chapter? We have a need for volunteers to help in many ways from one-time activities to more major responsibilities. If you would like to help set the direction for the chapter, please consider serving on the Steering Committee. It’s your chapter and we would love for you to step up and serve in a small or a large way.

We won’t know unless you let us know of your interest. If you have someone else to recommend that you feel would be an excellent volunteer, please give us their names and we will contact them.

Members will be receiving an email on March 3 from Jean Palmer with a Volunteer Questionnaire which can be filled out and submitted right on your computer! Be looking for it in your inbox and return it by March 15.

You can also email JeanPalmer790@gmail.com to find out more about what volunteer opportunities there are and for any questions you may have. It is a way to give back to the organization, to use your skills and to gain some new friends.
VIRTUAL WOMEN IN TRANSITION
WORKSHOP SUMMARY
Five women from New Mexico and five women from other chapters attended the recent Virtual Women in Transition Workshop. The mix of participants shared in lively and open interactions, and they left with a sense that we’re all in this together.

Here are a few comments from those who attended:
This is a wonderful workshop and especially relevant during these turbulent times. I have come away with a more compassionate way of being with myself and looking at what steps I need to take to best harness my energies and strengths.

It was lovely to be reminded that I am not alone in “transitioning” in this life. It helped me understand and appreciate the stages of transition. It was nice to connect with new people, and I have a feeling I have some new people to add to my support team and vice versa.

Rich material that was organized and well-presented. It was wonderful to be among so many bright, reflective and accomplished women. It really felt like a no-judgment zone that allowed for honesty and reflection.

We offer the Women In Transition Workshop twice a year, so look for details about the fall workshop in the August newsletter.
NEW TRANSITION PEER GROUP FORMING!
We are happy to announce that a new Transition Peer Group was formed at the recent virtual Kick-off held on Zoom on February 18. After learning more about peer groups and how they function, a new group made a commitment to each other and decided upon their specific ground rules and topics. They met for the first time in late February and were supported at their first meeting by a member of the Advisory Committee.

It is always exciting to see a new peer group begin their own path toward creating new connections and forming deep and lasting friendships. Welcome to our newest Transition Peer Group!

There is room in the group for a couple more women. If interested or have questions, please contact Betty Bartos, bebartos@gmail.com.
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
ZOOMING IN TO OTHER CHAPTERS!
One of the silver linings of being a TTN member during this pandemic is that all members can “Zoom In” to other chapters around the country and attend their TTN scheduled events. I for one have eagerly sought out some of the many that have been available recently.

  • Chicago Chapter hosted a discussion about “Care and Choices at the End of Life,” even addressing the special needs that exist with Advance Directives, now especially catered to COVID.

  • Washington DC Chapter hosts monthly Ted Talks which have been fascinating and provocative. They also hold weekly virtual luncheons on Fridays open to all chapters.

  • Atlanta Chapter held a very informative event, “Learn How to Get the Most from your TTN Membership: A Walkthrough of the TTN Website.”

  • Boston Chapter hosted a wonderful “Friday Morning Coffee” featuring a speaker from Paris, an international fashion author and magazine writer, who talked about sustainable clothing and the issue of ‘fast fashion’ and its impact today on our planet.

Several chapters have held discussions for film buffs about movies and series, including the highly acclaimed Netflix series, “The Queen’s Gambit.”

This is just a small sample of what’s available and it is easy to explore other chapters’ events on the TTN website to see what is on the horizon for March and beyond. The vast majority are free or with a small fee for members and non-members. Make sure you don’t miss any of these wonderful virtual opportunities that appeal to you!
