Dear St. Serra Parents,

As we are about to enter the month of March, it is hard to believe that we only have a little over three months of school remaining in the 2020-21 school year. It brings me great pleasure to announce that during these remaining months, we are in the very early stages of bringing back some of our on-campus events keeping in mind our COVID practices. Our PTO has successfully completed its first ever Mask-A-Rade event, and has scheduled some on-campus New Family Coffee gatherings with Mrs. Reiss, Mrs. Radzai, and me.

Our Tuition Assistance Luncheon has been announced and plans are moving forward. This event has already shown great interest from parents and community members alike, and will take place on April 25. Additionally, our Annual Golf Classic will take place on May 20 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. These traditional events have proven to be very successful for St. Serra in the past, and will continue to be strong supporters of our on-going fundraising efforts. Of course, they are also great ways for our parents to have an opportunity to socialize and get caught up with “old” friends or make some new ones. We hope that you will continue to support these endeavors as they help to subsidize our ongoing mission of providing your child with an excellent education.

I look forward to these upcoming events and especially to having the opportunity to meet and visit with you all!

Always Striving,

Tim Tolzda
Sr. Principal

2021-2022 Educational Costs
Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful St. Junipero Serra Catholic School. We are so grateful for our SJSC parents who share our love of catholic education. We recognize that this is a financial sacrifice and commitment for each of our families. We are honored and blessed to partner with you on our mission of building disciples for Christ. Please "Read More" to view the Educational Costs for the 2021-22 school year.
Almsgiving - Helping Those in Need, Next Thursday, March 4
As most of us are well aware, recently there has been a lot of devastation caused by severe weather hitting across most of the United States. The state of Texas was hit extremely hard because for them the weather was very unusual. To help provide some financial help to the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Galveston-Houston, we are going to hold a Red, White and Blue Fundraiser Day next week, Thursday, March 4.

2021-2022 Educational Cost Assistance Applications
At St. Junipero Serra Catholic School, it is our desire that our students continue to have the opportunity to receive a well-rounded Catholic education. Should financial challenges arise, we offer educational cost assistance. Read more about the process and how to apply.
Read Across America
St. Serra will join schools all over the country in celebration of National Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 2 (and Wednesday, March 3 for our Tues/Thurs preschool students). This will be a non-uniform Comfy Cozy Day for our students. Students may wear sweats or long pajamas with closed toe and heel shoes, as per the handbook (no slippers). Students should bring a favorite book - AR book or book they are reading at school. Our English Language Arts/Literacy teachers will have events planned for their classes to promote the love of reading in our students.
Looking Ahead
For planning purposes, please note that Holy Thursday, April 1, is a minimum day with dismissal at 11:15 a.m. for Preschool and 12:10 p.m. for TK through Grade 8. Extended Care will be available before school as usual, but AFTER school extended care is ONLY available for Preschool through 8th grade students who use it on a regular basis. No drop-ins will be accepted that day. There will also be no school on Friday, April 2 in observance of Good Friday and we will be closed the following week, April 5-9, for Easter Break.
Updated COVID-19 Protocol & Student Symptom Decision Tree
The CDC and the Orange County Health Care Agency continually review and adjust their suggested practices and protocols based on emerging information about COVID-19. This memo is to announce some important changes regarding St. Serra’s COVID-19 protocols based on CDC and OCHCA guidance. Effective January 1, 2021, St. Serra has updated the return-to-school policy when a student
is exposed to COVID-19.
COVID-19 Health & Safety Reminders
Anytime that a face shield is worn, it must be with a face mask under the shield for all staff and students in all grades. It is important that we practice social distancing throughout our school and maintain good hygiene by washing hands on a consistent basis. Finally, if your child is feeling ill and displaying any COVID-19 related symptoms, please keep them home and contact your family medical professional regarding the situation. We appreciate your continued support which will help St. Serra stay open for in-person learning.
Type to Learn 4 - Keyboarding
St. Junipero Serra Catholic School is pleased to offer Type to Learn 4 as its instructional keyboarding program for K through 8th Grade. TTL4 has engaging lessons that include graphics and activities with multiple opportunities for practice, remediation and goals for success. Directions for each activity are read to the students, and they receive an accuracy and speed report at the end of each lesson.
Water Bottles
We have noticed that students are forgetting their water bottles from time to time. If a parent is unable to drop off their child's water bottle at the school office, we do have plastic water bottles available to purchase for $1.00 each. With the warm weather approaching, it is suggested that all students have an emergency fund of $1-$2 in their backpack at all times if the need arises to purchase a water bottle. We are unable to bill families through FACTS for $1.00.
