New Upper Marlboro Playground Groundbreaking:

On Saturday, October 30th, 2021, the Town held a groundbreaking event for the new Town of Upper Marlboro Community Playground being built in a vacant Town-owned lot adjacent to Town Hall and the Sasscer Athletic fields. The playground will be train & train station themed, as the site was formerly the location of the Upper Marlboro station of the Chesapeake Beach Railway, which ran from DC to Chesapeake Beach's resort until 1935. The park is being built in three phases listed below:

Phase 1- Train station playground for ages 5-12

Phase 2- Train playground for ages 2-5

Phase 3- A splash pad (all ages)

Thanks to our local elected officials who came out to show their support for the new playground including Ron Watson for Maryland, Calvin Hawkins, and District 9 Council Member Sydney J. Harrison, as well as everyone else who attended the groundbreaking.

This park is being funded by a mix of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Community Parks & Playgrounds Program and Town funds. The park is being built and designed by Sparks@Play.
