In Memory of Gaby Serrano

Mother of Five

On October 21 Gaby Serrano, a member of our Faro de Luz community, passed away. Gaby and her family have been a part of Faro de Luz since the very beginning and were one of the first families to receive support with our Despensas de Luz program. Gaby is a mother of five: Kimberly (12), Hector (10), Jesús (8), Michelle (6), and Sofía (4). Her children adored her for being a loving, caring mother. We are committed to continue building hope in the lives of Gaby's kids in her memory.

Support Gersom & Amada's Dream

Gersom and Amada have been dedicated to serving communities in Mexico, North and South, for over 15 years. Now they are the pastors and directors of Faro de Luz, a church and community center in the community of El Ranchito. When they first started in 2017, a large portion of the community suffered from addictions, and this was easily seen in the behavior of the children. At first the kids were mischievous and anxious to receive love. Today the number of families suffering from addiction continues to decrease and the receptivity of love has grown immensely. To continue seeing these improvements, Gersom and Amada need financial support. For the past few years, much of the finances have come from their own wallet.

We would love to support Gersom and Amada in their dreams and recognize the immense amount of work they've contributed to the community of El Ranchito and Casas de Luz. More specifically, they need reliable financial support to depend on each month. If you would like to support Gersom and Amada with a monthly donation, please contact us and we will be happy to set it up.

Celebrating 4 Years

On October 31, Faro de Luz celebrated their four year anniversary with a mariachi band, lots of food and guests. As a community they were able to look back on all they have been through in the past 4 years, the difficult and good times. Starting out as a piece of land on the edge of the canyon, Faro de Luz now has a church, kitchen, classrooms, dormitories, and a playground. It's truly a dream come true for Gersom and Amada and has been amazing to watch and take part in its growth. YOU have been part of their growth and we thank you for your constant support.

Heaven on Earth NOW

We are so grateful for the support Heaven on Earth NOW continues to provide us for our Despensas de Luz program. Each month 60 families receive a bag of Good for You Groceries. Recently the Despensas de Luz leadership team has expanded our reach, providing groceries to the trash collectors and other service members in the community. The smiles of surprise and gratitude light up the room. Thank you Heaven on Earth NOW!

Preparing for the Holidays

The community in Cumbres is excited and starting to get ready for the holidays. This year each child is creating their own piñata for the holiday party. Help us fill these piñatas with your donations of candy!

Getting Back to "Normal"

In the past few months, our community center in Cumbres has been working hard to get back to their pre-pandemic activities. Most importantly this includes resuming classes for the kids to help with their homework and participate in other educational activities. When school started they were able to provide each kid in the community enter with a starter school supplies pack. Juan and Betty continue to share their love with the community in new and different ways and we are so happy to see our community centers getting back to "normal," even if it still includes social distancing and masks.

Donations

Donation Sheds at St. James Catholic Church

Sheds are at the end of the parking lot of the church if coming from the North. If you are coming from the South, take Via de la Valle and drive towards the ocean. On Del Mar Downs Road, turn right and continue until the end of the road where you will turn left. Drive left up the hill and the sheds will be on your left! There is a rope protecting our sheds from being a dump zone, so feel free to drop off your usable donations right there! Please contact us so we know to expect it!
