The following Chicago ordinances are now in effect:  Chicago Fair WorkweekMinimum Wage Increase and  Paid Sick Leave.

Every Friday at 2:00 p.m., The Director of Labor Standards will host an online forum where participants can ask questions about Chicago's labor laws, including the Fair Workweek Ordinance.


Most federal tax filing and payment deadlines from April 1, 2020, to July 14, 2020, are postponed to July 15, 2020. The postponements are automatic and apply to all taxpayers.


If you need more time to file after the new July 15 deadline, or to file a form with a different deadline date, you may request a filing extension.
COVID-19 BUSINESS UPDATES

Effective immediately, all bars, restaurants, breweries and other establishments that serve alcohol for on-premises consumption are required to close by midnight each evening. Liquor sales must end at 11:00 p.m.

After midnight each night, establishments with tavern or incidental liquor licenses are permitted to continue delivery and curbside pickup of food only. All entrances to the establishment must close by 12:00 a.m., however, as customers are not permitted to be in the establishment after midnight.

Restaurants that do not have a liquor license are not subject to the midnight closure order.

The Paycheck Protection Program resumed accepting applications in response to the President signing the program's extension legislation. The new deadline to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan is August 8, 2020.

SBA will forgive loans if all employee retention criteria are met, and the funds are used for eligible expenses.


Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) investigators examined hundreds of businesses this past weekend for Phase IV compliance. While most were following the rules, they did issue ten citations of $10,000 each to five businesses. They also shut down Chicago Lakefront Cruises for blatantly ignoring the reopening guidelines.

The LPCC has joined the Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) to eliminate institutional and unnecessary bureaucracy with Chicago's Small Business Comeback Agenda.

  • Legalize "A-Frame" Signs
  • Home-Based Business


The Chicago Department of Public Health has released general recommendations on steps to take when an individual with COVID-19 has been in your facility. This includes notification of contacts, cleaning and reporting clusters of cases.


The Anti-Retaliation Ordinance prohibits employers from retaliating against employees for obeying an order issued by the Mayor, Governor, Chicago Department of Public Health, or healthcare provider having to do with COVID-19.

Employers are also prohibited from taking any adverse action against an employee for caring for someone who has been issued certain orders having to do with COVID-19.

The Chicago History Museum will welcome visitors back beginning Friday, July 10 with free Museum admission for everyone the entire month of July. To support these efforts, they have made some changes to protect visitors and staff, so your Museum visit may look and feel a little different from before.

Martina Koronakos, founder of Kovo Salon in Lincoln Park, is featured on Scene Chicago!
