"Creativity from Chaos"
Jennifer Odenwald Bacmeister
July 26, 2020
10:45 a.m.
In peaceful times, a bit of chaos can be an impetus for creativity. When chaos is the rule of the day, can we still find that spark of the divine? Jennifer will look at how sometimes the worst circumstances can bring the greatest insights and evidence of our 7th principle, the interconnectedness of all.
Jennifer Odenwald Bacmeister is a happy newlywed and longtime member of Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She currently serves as a Worship Leader, guest speaker, Canvass Chairperson, and Worship Committee member. Past roles have included Board Vice President, Worship Committee Chairperson, and Religious Education teacher. Her other favorite parts of life include her children and grandchildren, her chickens, and her sewing room, although not always in that order. When not quarantining at home, Jennifer is a Construction Project Manager for JEA, the local electric, water, and wastewater utility in Jacksonville.

New Book Discussion Coming in August
 Join us on
August 13 and 20 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom to discuss Dr. Joy DeGruy's book
Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing. This book examines the history, science, and adaptive behaviors that evolved to hold the traumatic experience of slavery in place for hundreds of years, and how those attitudes and behaviors are still with us today. The book also provides practical tools to help transform negative attitudes and behaviors into positive ones. The discussion will include the ideas presented in the book, and how we might implement them in our daily lives. Discussion be
facilitated by Summer Peters and Sally Locklear.
This book is in high demand, so if you think you might be interested, we suggest ordering a copy now. Alternatively, we have several hard copies to share, so
contact us if you would like to borrow a book. You can still come to the discussion even if you have not read the book. If you are interested in attending, please
email to register, and we will send you the Zoom link.

To give a plate offering to UUCH from your mobile device, text the amount (without dollar sign) to 833-559-0257, and follow the instructions.
Like our other online and mobile giving options, this is through Vanco, is secure, and has a good option for "plate" donations.
Text giving is by debit or credit card only. To give from your bank account, you can still use the UUCH website or the GivePlus+ mobile app.

The Property Committee's garden subcommittee offers a hearty thanks to
Dan McKitrick for donating the rain barrel for the RE Wing of our building, and
Howard Williams for installing it.
Not only will we reduce our water/sewer bill a bit and divert runoff from the Tennessee River watershed, but watering anything on the SE part of the church property will now be quicker and easier.
Our fall garden will be planted starting in late August. Please contact
LaDawn Edwards to schedule a socially distant shift for you and your beloved "bubble."

Our Little Food Pantry Needs You
Our outdoor food pantry is being heavily used, with an estimated 12 visitors per day, both families and homeless individuals. YOU can help keep it stocked by signing up on the SignUp Genius.
Traffic at our Little Free Food Pantry continues to be heavy. Several home gardeners have started to contribute fresh vegetables from their bounty. School supplies will be needed for both those returning to classrooms and children who will learn from home again this fall. And, as always, soap, shampoo, deodorant and other hygiene items are in great demand.
Thanks for your generous spirits. The notebook we placed in the pantry for suggestions is always full of praise and thanks. So proud to see our congregation help where we are with what we have.

I eat it all the time,
Not just 'cause how good it tastes
But 'cause how good it rhymes.

Heather Kyemba
lit a candle of joy: Torin celebrated his 11th birthday last week.
Gary and Barbara Hitt
lit a candle of concern: Concern for
John Jeter, who fell and bruised some of his ribs, in addition to suffering from shingles. Wishing you a quick recovery from both of these painful conditions.
Paul & Bridgit De Moor
lit a candle of concern: For the family and friends of
Roland Norton. Much love and support as you process this loss.
Angela Arnold
lit a candle of joy: Joy and gratitude to
Lynda Lamitie and my fellow Peace Pole workshop participants
Denise Runnels and
Monica Speed. We spread out under the trees on the lawn of UUCH with our masks and our painting supplies, proving that where there is a will, there is a way. A life-affirming afternoon of creativity, love, and hope!
LaDawn Edwards
lit a candle of joy: My mother has agreed to move into a senior community in New Mexico. I will be with her for the next 2 weeks as she leaves her home of 26 years.
Kathy Fisher
lit a candle of sorrow: Love to
June Norton as she mourns the loss of Roland. My condolences to his family.
Rachael Scheib
lit a candle of joy: Thank you, Dan McKitrick, for kind support while I waited in line to be tested for COVID-19. I have no symptoms but was exposed while at work on July 4th. I have hope for a negative rest result in the next few days -- joy!
Rita Scholes
lit a candle of concern
: For everyone right now. Practice peace and love. This is a wonderful congregation.
