Patty Alder of NC State University will join us to share the latest updates about ants and wood-destroying wood insects.
- P-Phase: Ants: Back to the Basics will cover ID, biology, feeding habits and management strategies for some of the important pest species.
- W-phase: Wood-Destroying Insect ID will cover the identification of some of the main wood-destroying pests.
Cost: This will be FREE for NCPMA members with the code MEMBER.
Credits: You can earn 2 credits by attending a two-hour session; the same two-hour session will be offered four times. Viewing the class more than once will not provide more than 2 credits.

Registration Open: Premier Technician Courses
On Nov. 1, 2019, the North Carolina Pest Management Association launched a program  called Premier Technician for its members. The program is designed for pest management professionals who are committed to the field and who strive to be experts in the industry. This program allows owners and managers to enroll their technicians in courses that will not be found anywhere else. Each course is created to provide attendees with in-depth, hands-on training in the classroom and the field using state-of-the-art equipment. These courses are taught by top professionals and educators who keep participants engaged and learning in unique environments.
Whether you choose to attend just one class or attend all 8 to earn your Premier Technician designation, the value of this training is priceless. A "premier technician" is well rounded in all aspects of proper inspections, identifying pests, and determining appropriate treatment options. That is why this program focuses on the Big 8 areas: Ants, Rodents, Termites, Flying Insects, Occasional Invaders, Bed Bugs, Cockroaches and Beetles. Each course offers 7 hours of CEU credits along with unique field tools appropriate for each course.
On March 24 and 25, we will be holding the final two classes of our inaugural program. We are excited to announce that at the completion of those two classes, we will have nine participants graduating from the program and earning their designation of Premier Technician. The names of the graduates will be announced immediately following the ceremony in March.

NCPMA Inducts Mike Waldvogel Into Hall of Fame
We were honored to induct Mike Waldvogel, Ph.D. (pictured above), into our Hall of Fame, the association's highest honor, during the 2021 PCT School. NCPMA Vice President Marty Roberts (pictured above left) and NCPMA Secretary/Treasurer Marie Horner (pictured above right) presented the award to Dr. Waldvogel prior to the PCT School.
Waldvogel is the former Extension Associate Professor & Extension Specialist at North Carolina State University's Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology.
The NCPMA Hall of Fame recognizes the men and women who have made significant life-long contributions to the pest management industry in North Carolina.
"The NCPMA Hall of Fame recognizes the pest management professionals who have made significant contributions to our association and our industry through their leadership and example," said John Adkins, NCPMA President. "Dr. Waldvogel has been an instrumental part of the pest management industry in North Carolina for decades. His knowledge of pests, their behaviors and trends is unparalleled, and we, as an industry, are truly thankful for all of the insight, guidance and wisdom he has shared with us throughout the years."
In 2019, NCPMA developed the NCPMA Extension Program Endowment in Honor of Mike Waldvogel which supports the ongoing work of North Carolina State University, focusing on supporting positions that directly contribute to the education of the pest management industry. The endowment program was founded in honor of Waldvogel's contribution to the pest management industry.

Technician of the Year
NCPMA presents two Technician of the Year awards each year to technicians who exemplify the best qualities of pest management professionals within their companies. The two Technician of the Year awards are given each year to technicians in the pest management phase and wood-destroying insects phase.
Technicians of the Year are chosen based on the applicant's demonstration of leadership among peers, excellent customer relations, knowledge of his/her job, superior job performance and the ability to successfully handle problems on the job. All applicants must be members of NCPMA, have at least two years of experience in either the pest management or wood-destroying insects phase and must be nominated by a person in a leadership role in his or her company.
Winners of the Technician of the Year Award receive a $250 gift card, a plaque and one free Pest Control Technician's school registration.
Administrative Professional of the Year
The North Carolina Chapter of the Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM), a committee of the NCPMA, began awarding the Administrative Professional of the Year Award annually in 2018 to the administrative professional who best demonstrates customer service both internally and externally and a commitment to the company's purpose.
Each nominee must be a current, full-time administrative support staff member and must have worked in his/her current position for at least two years.
Winners receive a plaque and a $250 gift card.

Public Policy Update: A Word From Public Policy
Guest Post by Marie Horner, Chair of NCPMA Public Policy Committee
The Public Policy Committee's goal for 2021 is to create a strong and united grassroots movement throughout the state of North Carolina. By harnessing spontaneous support of association members across the state, we will be able to influence policy change at the local, regional and national levels.
To kick-off this movement, we are launching a "Get to Know Your Legislators" campaign. Every month this year, in addition to our news updates, we will be spotlighting House and/or Senate Representatives. If it is your legislator, let us know so we can include you in any activities that are planned in your area of the state. We are working on hosting a Legislative Breakfast at the capitol in April. As soon as the date is confirmed we will let everyone know and would love to have you join us.

Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know about you? It has been a great experience serving the folks of Eastern North Carolina for the last eight years. I have done my best to properly represent our farmers because when they are treated well and fairly it is good for all of us. All other professions depend on and should be thankful for the abundant supply of good, safe and economical food and fiber they produce. God be thanked for farmers who are willing to deal with the conditions of production so that others can enjoy the benefits of consumption. I proudly voted for Donald Trump and I will attempt to help him keep America Great by doing that which will make North Carolina great for our grandchildren. Thank you for your consideration on November 6, 2018.
