Greetings!
For Dana*, just weeks ago, safety meant living in her car.
Dana was caught in an abusive relationship. At the hands of her abuser, she suffered head injuries so severe she was hospitalized. Upon release, with no safe home to return to and no other options, she began living in her vehicle.
She called place after place, only to get either no answer or no solutions. Finally, around 7:00 on a Friday evening, she called our community help line at the
Elizabeth Stone House
.
She reached Ruthy of our
Strong Where You Are
team and a “first of its kind” plan instantly took shape.
Because of donors like you, Stone House funded a five-night stay for Dana in a local motel. From there, she stayed in our designated apartment for COVID-19 quarantine. After fourteen days, she safely moved into another Stone House apartment.
Dana now works with our staff to stabilize her life and overcome her domestic violence experiences and trauma.
Our methods in serving residents like Dana, and hundreds of survivors from the community, have been forced to transform.
Thankfully, your support has allowed us to adapt, because domestic violence is not taking a back seat to COVID-19.
Our on-site and community teams expertly navigate these new challenges and care for survivors every day, many of whom are now forced inside with their abusers. Under the stresses of COVID-19, violence is intensifying and shelters are at capacity.
Calls steadily come into the Stone House with increased urgency.
We – you and Stone House – must remain on the line for survivors.
The most efficient way you can make an immediate impact for the adults and children who need us, is with a donation.
Your gift today will:
• Put food, clothing, medications, household essentials and more into the hands of survivors.
• Provide countless hours of over-the-phone safety planning.
• Facilitate imperative support groups now running through Zoom.
• Ensure weekly wellness checks for clients, using whatever technology is safest.
