Second Sunday in Lent

Weekly Chimes

Hello Old Donation!

Well, we have full entered into Lent and said goodbye to Alleluia's for some time. In some ways, Lent is a relief-the church season matches where the world so often seems to be. And still, beauty abounds! Though we were unable to have in-person services on Sunday as we wanted, we were still able to celebrate Holy Eucharist together, and had 81 households worshiping with us live. Our first Sermon Seminar was also a success, with about 23 of us gathered on zoom at 12:30 to talk about Bob's sermon.

Now, I hope you're all getting ready for more formation: our Desert Wilderness program kicks off tonight at 7:00pm on zoom. Bring a lighter and your wilderness garden kit, and stop by the Bell Tower today if you haven't gotten one yet. We'll be putting the kits together (a very simple process), going through a brief meditation using them, then reading and discussing some scripture. If possible, find a comfortable space-somewhere that you feel most connected to God, and least distracted by outside stimuli.

Sunday we will only have our Facebook live stream service at 11:30am this week. We really hoped to have an outdoor service, but with three days of rain forecast, the graveyard will be too muddy. Here's hoping for next week!

I also want to note the "Family Formation" option (in quotes because it can be used by ANYONE) for Lent, which walks you through a brief psalm reading, activity, and prayer. And of course, join us on zoom for another Sermon Seminar on Sunday at 12:30.

Finally, I need more videos! Please record yourself sharing who you are and what you're doing for Lent this year (Giving something up? Doing something new?) and send me the videos to use before our Sunday livestream services in Lent.

There is a lot of uncertainty right now, but you can count on one thing: Old Donation isn't stopping!

See you soon,

A Note from our Treasurer:

I want you to be aware that if you have written offering checks to ODEC for the General Fund and/or the Building Fund in the past few weeks, and they have not shown up on your most recent bank statement as having been cashed, there is no cause for concern. We have been retrieving all the mail from our P.O. Box 68067 and the secure black mailbox near the Bell Tower, and any checks received have been placed in the church safe. Due to the inclement weather, relocation of the accounting offices to Tucker Hall, and ongoing renovations of the office wing, it has just not been possible for our dedicated church counters to meet and count the offerings. Your mailed checks are secure and will be counted/recorded/processed just as soon as we can provide the counters a location in which they can work effectively.

Thanks for your understanding,
Ned Kuhns, Treasurer

Lent at Home in Community
For families (and anyone else!) this Lent we'll be using a curriculum from GenOn Ministries which seeks to engage the senses: "See. Taste. Hear. Smell. Touch. Give." The short weekly guide will be provided in Chimes and Sunday Scoop each week, and will walk individuals and families through a brief reading from Psalms, an activity, and a prayer.
Click HERE for this week's activity.

Daily Micro-practices
This year, we are including a nice devotional booklet for adults and families. These are small, easy-to-do micro-practices that will enhance your mindfulness and enable you to experience Lent.
